Wow! look at what Santa Clause brought me for Christmas; the New Hygger 500 Watt Submersible Smart Heater with LED Digital Temperature external readings. Only two pieces total, the stylish high end component ceramic heater itself and the external dongle thats used to adjust your temperature settings and view temp readings of inside aquarium water. I never saw a Heater heat up my tank so fast yet be so safe! The pictures above with temp display were takin within 10 seconds of each other. Within minutes I reached my desired targeted temperature of 78 degrees. The Reason I call this Hygger a Smart Heater is for several reason and one being; as it starts to approach its targeted temperature within minutes of starting temp, it slows down within the last 2 degrees so its accurate not to over heat the water for a close to perfect reading. I really love how the heater shows me when its heating or when its idle; Pictures above shows how digital horse shoe shape imprint above the numbers is constantly moving from empty to full in order to show its heating, when digital horse shoe shape imprint above the numbers is full with no movement heater is in idle keeping temperature steady to desired temperature. This is my second Hygger Heater, so now I have the 300 Watt version and the New 500 Watt version. I love both heaters but the 500 Watt is definitely the way to go. The higher Wattage actually saves on power consumption with it effortless ceramic heating. So Now I need 5 more Hygger 500 Watt heaters for my other tanks. This heater was one of two in my large 120 gallon custom turtle tank / terrarium. Because it was in the back behind a waterfall rock configuration I didn't notice how bad it was deteriorated, and since I have a "backup" glass-tube heater it kept the water warm. I am sure it was destroyed several months before the 14 months but don't' know exactly when. Prior to getting this one I had two glass-tube heaters (in-case one goes bad) and I had one die on me after 4 years of use. The plastic contact-protectors on these glass ones tend to fail after 3-4 years so I was hoping this wide-profile heater would be safer for the turtle and last as long or longer. Unfortunately this is by far the quickest I have had a tank heater fail on me. Normally others, even cheap ones, last 4-6 years. Save your money and get a glass-tube or stainless-steel tube with a plastic protection shield. It will likely last years longer than this one. ... show more

I’m giving this a 4 star because mine completely burned a hole through it. DO NOT LAY THIS ON ITS SIDE. The company was extremely helpful and replaced it free of charge. But you have to be sure to see the small print on the side of the heater. It says to not cover up a “hole” which I don’t see what hole they’re referring to. This should be in BIG BOLD LETTERS. I honestly think I’m lucky it didn’t cause a fire because although the heating element wasn’t working, the reader read it was at 90+ degrees trying to kick the temp of the tank up to the 83 I had it set at. I feel very lucky that my fish are alive. This is a really great heating element. But do be careful. This happened only have 2 months of use. Be sure you hang the heater. Do not let it fall to the floor like I did. User error. I would give it 5 stars but due to the small print that lead to the user error, I am giving it 4. That could have been really bad. But again, the customer service was great. I contacted the company directly over amazon. They didn’t require the old one back. Super helpful. Update: The seller reached out to me and assured me (even though they haven’t seen the unit) that the heating element couldn’t and wouldn’t cause a fire. They did issue me a full refund and sent me a replacement. I am keeping this a 4 star review because it did fail after 2 months and appears to have burned the unit. What has saved this from getting a 1 Star is the customer service. They did refund me and sent me a replacement. I will update this review in a few months after trying the replacement they sent me. I wasn’t going to risk it, but they have been very adamant that their heater would not cause a fire and that this is the first time they’ve had this complaint. I stand by my original statement. MAKE SURE this unit doesn’t get knocked down to the floor of the tank. There is small print instructing you to not cover a hole. I don’t know if that is what caused my heater to malfunction, but it’s the only thing I can think of. ... show more

The design is great. A single piece device joined by cable between the heating component and the controller. Easy to understand use; very much just plug-and-play. I checked it against an aquarium thermometer and the temp is quite accurate. Maybe 0.5F of difference the two, but these are also at two ends of the aquarium. Rapidly heats my water. I keep it in a 90G tank (way more than necessary), but it allows me to drip change water and keep the temperature within a couple degrees of baseline at all times. It works fast. Beyond the product itself being excellent, the customer service itself is even better. I don't usually leave reviews except when the company goes above and beyond. Great product, great company.
