Having had too many aquarium heaters fail regardless of cost, I've opted for two smaller heaters per tank rather than one big one. When my older heater failed, I bought this as a replacement and it's worked great so far. Plusses: The suction cups are on a separate plastic holder and can be easily removed to adjust or clean without messing with the suction cups. Best price I could find anywhere. Minuses: The temperature gauge on the heater itself is off a little; backup temperature monitoring is a must. Steel body would have been better than glass, but I've never broken a glass heater. ... show more

I’ve been searching for the perfect heater that will fit in my 5 gallon. I’ve gone through several and all of them aren’t fully submersible or they’re huge and have to be at an angle. This one is adjustable which is good because I live in Missouri and the weather never knows if it’s wants to be hot or cold. My favorite part is it’s size. It fits with more than enough space. Make sure that you unplug the heater before any water is taken out of the tank, and check temps of tank with a thermometer that doesn’t stay in your tank so that you know temp is stable. I’ve had it almost a month. Hopefully I’ll remember to update review after a few more months. ... show more

Would not work at all for a week in the tank. I was shipped another one. I took the old one out of the water but still sitting in the tank and it started to melt it's plastic cover. The new one works when it wants, so I bought a different brand that works. Both of the non-working heaters have an indicator light. However you can't see it even if it did want to come on. Because the too loose of plastic sleeve covers it, and the heater will just twist around in there. I monitored all of this on a seperate digital aqua temp reader. I understand it was a cheaper item but I expected it to work. ... show more

    • Lil big for my needs but works perfect!!
Zero complaints! Does it’s job but it’s kind of hard to place in a tall and narrow tank. Wish my digital one hadn’t quit on me. Especially since it’s not available on here anymore. The digital numbers are sketchy and failing. Seems to still work right but not gonna take chances!!

    • Died after a year
As with most of these little heaters, mine only lasted about a year. And another bad thing about them is when they start to fail, they just start heating and don't turn off. I had mine set at about 76 and noticed that the "On" light had been lit for about almost an hour (when the room temp on a warm day was almost 74). All of the fish were gathered at the opposite side of the tank as far away from the heater as they could get. I don't have a thermometer in the tank (I'll fix that!), but I put my hand on the outside of the tank and felt the heat. Stuck my hand inside and it was at least 90 degrees. Checked it with my laser thermometer and it was 92! Needless to say I pulled the unit out and tossed it. I had another heater from another company do the same thing but I didn't catch it in time and lost the whole community due to the high heat. So keep an eye on them! ... show more
