They pulled it when it was locked, until it broke. Advice don’t let some one use it that doesn’t know there is a button on top that has to be pushed to release it open. I have arthritis in my hand and have trouble using other can openers that require me to firmly hold and press down on the handle. I don't have to with this one. If you look at the picture you'll see a red button on the top. That is a lock that will hold the can opener firmly in place when in use. Thus, I can loosely hold onto it with my left hand while opening the can with my right hand. I also find it easier to twist the crank (?) with my right hand than other can opener that I've used. It worked well for about 6 years and then started to slip a bit. Kinda like a NFL running back. Now 8 years on...we're replacing it. It was phenomenal for the first few years. But these tools take a beating.

It's silly to get so excited over a kitchen tool, but I got so tired of ineffective can openers, that I splurged on this one, thinking, if it works well, it's money well spent! I love it! No more slipping off the can. The locking mechanism is a great feature and easy to use. When you start thinking of who you want to gift one to, you know it's a good product! Very smooth action. The lock works as it should. The magnet to remove the lid is clunky. In order to get the magnet to lift the lid out you have to dunk it into whatever you are opening. Not sanitary, but I consider this an extra feature. What you need to know is that it does open cans.

I don't know what my issue is with can openers but they are definitely my kitchen nemesis. This is a game changer, it locks on well, cuts smoothly and evenly and is easy to turn. Also, the wheel cutter things don't tweak out of shape easily. Must buy!!

I am sick and tired of buying can openers that do not work. This ones lock broke the first day, however, without the lock it is a very good can opener. I was going to return it because the lock broke but the lock is totally unnecessary. So far it's been working and I open cans almost every day.
