This is an expensive set of knives, the actual knives look more impressive than the pictures in the description when I hold it in my hand. Don't be fooled by the country of origin, trust me they look so much more refined and elegant than any of my other Japanese brands, with much lower cost of course. The first thing I notice is the exceptional sharpness, it is dangerously sharp like a razor. The wooden handle is very comfortable to hold, overall balance is well engineered, this makes it effortless to cut through things. The pattern on the surface of the blade looks beautiful. The storage box also looks nice, even though not as of high quality as the knives themselves. If not looking at the instruction set and warranty card written by non-native English speakers, I would have mistakenly thought this was from Japan or Germany. These knives feel good in the hand, although as a lady with large hands the handles seem to JUST fit. For a man with big hands I’m not sure these are knives I would recommend. I don’t know why the handles strike me as not long enough but they do. They are thick and heavy tho, so they offer a satisfying grip for ME. Although these look like they’re listed as German knives, only the steel is from Germany. The guide booklet is written in broken English and I think it really detracts from the quality of the knife set. I’m sorry, but this matters. If I gifted these knives I would literally remove the booklet before I wrapped the set because it detracts from the quality. I think if a seller wants to market a high-end “German” set and charge a solid price, like these are priced, then do at least the most basic thing and have quality writing as part of the presentation. It will look a lot classier and it shouldn’t be that hard. I think it’s an overall statement on quality for a product and it’s definitely part of the package. ... show more

Revised review: I sent the order with the missing knife back and Amazon sent out a new set immediately. Complete set of 5 very sharp and beautiful knives. These knives are extremely sharp but thin, however, and the tips bend easily. So I would avoid cutting harder items like frozen foods etc.. first review: Missing knife, big disappointment. I ordered this very nice 5 piece knife set but only received 4 knives. The smallest knife, the 4inch paring knife is missing from the set. I have tried to email the company via the email that was included in the box but have not received any word back as of yet. The box was sealed and shrink-wrapped with plastic and there was a slot for the knife in the box. So this had to come from the manufacturer this way and somehow this got through quality control. The knives are sharp and of good quality, but I'm disappointed this set was not complete. Not a good set of knives without the paring knife. ... show more

They have a good balance and feel great in the hand. These are not dishwasher safe and need to be hand washed to preserve them which may be a turnoff to some but when it comes to quality like this it’s expected.
