I've had the machine for about 11 months now, and am happy with the performance. I believe I probably have over 50,000 strokes on it by now so it has gotten a fair test. I'm not certain of the total stokes on it cuz the overall total rolls over at 10,000. It's done that a number of times now. Was not difficult to set up. I initially noted some clicking noises while rowing and isolated these to the place where the main rail joined to the front frame. A small piece of cardboard (like the back of a note pad) helped to silence that. I also tinkered with the seat stop near the front of the main rail. I found that I would bottom out on this and did not care for the clack when the seat would hit the rubber stop. Inititally I added a small piece of foam cushion (headliner from an apholstery project) to the front of the seat where it hit the bumper. That had mixed results. I eventually removed the rubber "button" bumper altogether and added a foam rubber cushion about 3/4" square to the stationary spot where the seat can hit it at the bottom of the stroke. This had the benefit of allowing the seat to come about 3/4" closer to the wheel which I liked because it allows you to scrunch yourself closer to the wheel at the start of the stroke. Seemed to feel appropriate to me and is quieter this way with very little impact at the bottom of the stroke. The seat is OK but I sometimes fold a bath towel and add that as an additional cushion. The machine is quiet and has stayed that way. It does not have any "entertainment" as the display is just basic parameters of stroke count, time, pace (strokes per minute) and calorie count. I think that the calorie count is a very simple function of strokes as it shows exactly 200 calories at 1400 strokes. I'm not sure it is sensitive to the load setting or your pace. I kind of doubt it but I don't care. I don't watch the display, but have the unit faced towards a TV and generally watch something that engages me to keep going. You can get a pretty good workout in the last hour of the original Die Hard. That keeps you from constantly looking at your stroke count and thinking "Oh crap. I'm only half way to my goal...". Bottom line is this thing does what is says it does and for a rather modest price compared to some of the wind and water versions, and it's quiet enough to accommodate Bruce Willis movies, ...or even Hallmark or Nicholas Sparks if you are so inclined. ... show more

Over the years, I’ve owned a couple Concept2 rowers. I’ve moved a couple times and sold my rowers each time, thinking that I didn’t have room for them. I even had the “slides” to make the rowing feel more realistic. Those were quality rowers but the fan was very loud. I never realized how loud it was until I purchased this magnetic rower. It is so quiet! Why did I purchase a rower that is about $1,000 less than what I was used to? I purchased this rower because it had good reviews, it was $70 off the regular price and I wasn’t sure if I would be using it as much as I used my rower in the past. For less than $200, it wasn’t a huge decision. The rower came packaged extremely well. While I was cutting off tape from the packaging, I was thinking that if the rower is as good as it is packaged for shipping, it’s going to be of great quality! All pieces were protected nicely and the nuts, bolts, etc. came in a perfectly labeled package. I had no issues trying to decide how to put everything together. There weren’t too many parts and the directions were good. There are even a few videos that you can view online on how to put it together. I watched one that was about 3 minutes long and it covered the entire build. Really easy! The rower itself, is quality made. Since it is magnetic, it is very quiet. It feels smooth when rowing. I have no regrets. I even think back about the Concept2s that I have had and wonder why I spent so much money on them. They didn’t do anything differently. They were built well but nothing that made me look at them with awe. I am not a professional rower and I’m still not sure why they are regarded so well. Form is the most important aspect of rowing, so I will be cognizant of my form like always and this rower will do the job. I’m excited about rowing again and the fact that this rower is so quiet and it can also fold-up for storing out of the way, makes me really glad that I made this purchase. ... show more

Style: 04-Water Rowing Machine
This machine looks good, works well, is pretty easy to assemble, sturdy and quiet, the installation/operation manual is well designed, easy to understand, and has everything you need except for a trouble-shooting section. That's what I needed. The water/resistance tank is pre-installed and is supposed to be mostly full of water, fill-it and leave it for the next session. The design includes feet on the back perpendicular surface to be able to neatly stand the device upright to be stored near the wall. It is super easy to do and opens up a lot of space in the room when not in use, which is the vast majority of its existence. However... when tilting the device upright to park against the wall, the water tank begins leaking at the place where the top section (top half) of the tank attaches to the frame, and at a slow enough rate not to notice immediately, but fast enough to form a 10-foot puddle in 12 hours. I'm hoping this is a one-off defect in my particular machine, and if so, they have a quick fix for it. ... show more
