  • Excellent Home Treadmill, Solid Build, Nice Data, Great with Zwift and Kinomap
Style: TRX4500
Excellent treadmill, not quite commercial gym quality but solidly built with sweet blue LCD screen and Bluetooth FTMS that works great with Zwift and Kinomap. I put this together myself but had to lay on my back and hold up the verticals with my feet using my hands to connect the wiring and bolt the verticals to the base, definitely a job meant for two people. The box is huge and heavy, looked okay but my motor cover was cracked. Called Spirit and they registered the treadmill and shipped me the replacement cover. Kudos to Spirit for answering the phone quickly and taking care of the shipping damage without any hassle. I am 6'-0", 235# and jog, run intervals and race pace on this thing no problem. The motor is powerful enough and the frame sturdy. Mainly use the treadmill with Zwift and Kinomap. Zwift works fine but they still won't implement auto incline control so it isn't as seamless as it could be. Kinomap however does control the treadmill's incline and it is really nice, but the video quality is hit or miss. Bluetooth FTMS works great on the TRX4500. Pure manual mode is nice too. The readout shows not only speed in mph but pace which is nice and you get a visual of a track which helps with intervals. When jogging and running, the console does shimmy so trying to watch Netflix on your tablet is going to be frustrating, but you're golden if you are just going to be walking. I'm using a stand mounted TV for the running apps and watching YouTube or Netflix so it's a non-issue. The True and Life Fitness treadmills at the gyms I go to are more solid with just a bit of mild console shimmy when running. The Xterra has about the same I noticed in the Soles, Proforms and NordicTracks I tried out before buying the Xterra. Overall a solid treadmill capable of running and interval training with linebacker sized runners, FTMS Bluetooth for Zwift and Kinomap and a great value. ... show more

  • Well built, solid straightforward treadmill that doesn't make you use an app!
Style: TRX3500
Just got this treadmill and I highly recommend it based on my experience so far. Very quiet and smooth, controls are straight forward and this is a very solid, well built unit. So far, I am very happy with it. The deck is full sized so lots of room to run. It has a variety of programs with hills fat burn etc just like an old school gym treadmill. It does not keep forcing you to pay for an app like the Nordic track models which is a welcome relief!! Here are some suggestions for those buying one: Definitely spend the $20 to get it delivered to the room that you want. This thing is HEAVY!! When you assemble it, keep the bolts loose on the bottom of the two uprights. Makes it MUCH easier to get the bolt holes to line up where the uprights bolt into the console. Once all the bolts are installed, then install the crossbar, then go around and tighten everything. Boom! Just saved you an hour!! ... show more

  • Embarrassing extras; missing bolt; but it works fine
Style: TRX3500
This review is for the XTERRA TRX3500. It was advertised with 20"x60" running surface, 12 mph, and folding deck. It was also advertised with "12 levels of incline" but didn't say how much that range actually was in angle or distance. A sticker on mine says 12%. It was $900 plus $60 tax. Overall the basic speed and incline function of the treadmill work fine for running and jogging; and I'm keeping it. The extra features are pretty sucky: speakers, fan, and pulse sensor. I think I would have felt a lot better about the treadmill, if it didn't even have those things. Also, it had a missing bolt, and some incorrect instructions. (Also, I this is not manufacture's fault, but the delivery people weren't great. They were really nice, but they dropped the box, and I had to help them bring it down the stairs. But it didn't get damaged, and I wouldn't have been able to do it myself; so for $20, it was still a great deal.) VALUE & COMPARISON. I'm not sure how good a value this is, or how well it compares to other treadmills. It was the cheapest I could find with the combination of 20" wide belt and 12 mph max speed. A LOT of the treadmills on Amazon have only 17"-18" tracks; and IIRC, they're way shorter than 60". I had one like that, and my hands whacked into the side bars. What I can compare this to is the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T722022. That was the tiny 17"x48" treadmill I had. It was $475 plus $40 tax. So it was like half the cost, but also half the size. And the max speed was only 7.5 mph. It wasn't fast enough for my sprints. So, it basically looks like you pay twice as much, and you get twice as much. BUT - both treadmills have about the same feeling of quality to me. And both treadmills work about just as well for jogging and walking. So it kinda feels like I'm not getting that much more for double the price; but ultimately, I feel like it's worth it for me. I think I would have felt a lot better about it if it was only $700 tho. USAGE EXPERIENCE. I've had the treadmill for about 2 weeks. I've done a 45 minute jog at 4 mph; and a set of three 4-min sprint-walk cycles (9 mph), across the span of about 24 minutes. It gets up to speed at a reasonable pace (in my limited experience); and it can go faster than I need it to for my sprints. I didn't measure how fast it actually goes; but I've used treadmills that have a low max speed before; so this one seems decent. SETUP DIFFICULTIES. As I said, there was a missing bolt. I went to the hardware store and bought a replacement (5/16-18). Also, the manual said there was a hardware pack separated into five sections, divided by parts needed for each step. But actually all the parts were in one bag. Considering the cost, I think they should have added a couple extra of each bolt and each washer. Another annoyance is that the hex wrench they gave to fasten the bolts for the console was too short on the short side; and the other side had a useless philips driver. None of the setup required a phillips driver. My own hex wrench was long enough on the short side; so why was theirs so short? I guess it might have worked, but it would have been grinding against the coated metal frame. Installing the uprights (by myself) was somewhat challenging; but reasonable. I think they could probably provide some temporary inserts or supports that help you though. The console was very challenging to install. I used 3 or 4 foot ladder, standing partly on the track, and partly on a couple of the styrofoam blocks from the treadmill package. I rested the console partly on the uprights, and partly on the ladder. Luckily, the outward pressure of the uprights on the console plastic held this configuration fairly well, so that I could connect the wires. Then I squeezed the upright and console bar together, with my hand, to align the bolt holes, using my other hand to insert and drive the bolts. That was very difficult, and some people wouldn't be strong enough. I think they could come up with something to make this much easier for an individual person. Lubricating this thing was a huge pain. In fairness, I think a lot of treadmills are probably like this. Although I've only setup two cheap ones, including this one. Basically you have to lift the belt track, which is very hard, because it's supposed to be fairly tight for running, right? And then you have to squeeze the oil in an S pattern, down the length of the track, on each side, about 6 inches in. I couldn't really see in there while I was putting the oil down; and I could only properly do like 6 inches at a time. And then the bottle gets hard to squeeze toward the end. In fairness, maybe I should loosen the track when I do this. But I didn't want to screw up on retightening it; especially since I was giving my first test and review. It also doesn't instruct you to loosen it for lubrication. SKETCHY BOLTS? The shorter bolts, to me, seem like they should be longer by another eigth or quarter inch. It seems like they're barely gonna reach in there, through both pieces of metal, on the uprights. I was also afraid they would strip out. Just felt kinda squishy/gummy when it was getting tighter. And the replacement bolt that I bought at the store was slightly longer, by like a thread or two. BOGUS FAN. The fan is like this teenie tiny little pc fan, and I can barely feel it on my fingers, and only at a certain angle, very very close to the fan. It's useless. Also, if you pull the safety plug from the console, the fan keeps going, and you can't turn it off until you plug it back in. Very minor, but it is evidence of the quality. EMBARRASSING SPEAKERS. The speakers on this thing are like crappy laptop speakers. They are shrill and unpleasant to listen too. I will not use them. BULKY AUDIO PLUG. The audio plug was too bulky to fit into my phone case. BOGUS PULSE SENSOR. At first, I couldn't get the pulse sensor to read. I'm not sure why. It finally started reading after I started running at full jogging pace for a minute or so, with a good grip on both bars. But it was spotty. It would read for a few seconds, then blank for a few seconds. Then read for several second, then blank for a few seconds. Then read for a second, then blank for several seconds. And the readings were all over the place, ranging from 69 to 110. TRACK LENGTH & WIDTH. I measured the track, and it does appear to be 20"x60"; but only about 55" of that length can actually be used for running. This is totally reasonable though, because part of the track is covered by the motor cover. I think every electric treadmill has this. Also, 55" is a pretty good length to run on. And the width is nice. Also, I used to have a 17" wide track, and that sucked, because my hands would tend to whack into the bars; so I had to hold them awkwardly. The bars on this thing are 30" apart, and I have no problem with them. CUP HOLDERS. I think the cup holders are ok. I do like how big and deep they are. And since they're kinda rubbery, I expect that will dampen any rattling sound. My 32 oz nalgene gets wedged in, and pulls the whole cup holder out. In fairness, that nalgene is not good for running. One of those squeezy bottles would fit fine. ... show more
