  • Great laser purchase!
The media could not be loaded. Received the laser in a very timely fashion. First and foremost, customer service has been 100% satisfactory and "Alexyoung119977" has been superb. I mention his name specifically so you will know that if you get him from support you will be taken care of. I have only had it for a little while now however I am very pleased. I went with the 5W version as this is my first laser and didn't want to invest a whole lot until I knew how it would do. I did get the generic add on air assist as well as a honeycomb bed so keep that in mind regarding the performance I am writing about. Side note, you should get both add-ons as they will make your experience just as good. I have been very surprised at its performance. I was a little worried about getting a 5W but that worry has went away now. I have been cutting 1/8" (3mm) basswood and aspen without any problems using LightBurn with speed of 2mm/s and power of 100%. I have also been etching both woods as well and have great results, I get a great burn at 60mm/s and 40% power. If I want darker I just increase the power or slow it down or even both. Still trying to get all my settings tuned in. I have not used the factory software that is free from them to perform work however I have used it to modify some settings. LightBurn was a fantastic software add on. I have also cut 5mm and 1/4" plywood in two passes without issue at 2mm/s and 100% power. I wasn't sure how that was going to work out but it did just fine. I have done slate coasters as well without any issues. Soon I will be trying out on acrylic. As with all lasers the performance you get will be based on settings and environment. As I mentioned at the start, the two add-ons will make a big difference and some trial and error with settings will get more tuned in with time. Another thing you really need to do is make sure its focused on the material. X-Tool has made that part very easy and convenient by having a drop down tool on the side and an easy to adjust lever / thumb screw on the side. I also took that in account when I was looking to buy. When I am ready for a more powerful laser I will definitely be going to X-Tool. This has been a great purchase. I have attached some pictures and a video of its performance and in it working. Note the video with the cable drag chain seen, that was a 3d print add-on for the connectors and chain purchased on Amazon, that is not included in the product that you will receive. Not needed for function however it has added more convenience for me and I have full use of the working area without the worry of a wire getting dragged when engraving. ... show more

  • Best diode laser. Don't bother with the others
The Xtool was actually the 3rd laser engraver I bought. It is hands down the best. The software is almost intuitive and the engraver functions perfectly. Alex at Xtool customer service was extremely helpful and was even able to get me a few replacement parts free of charge and got them to me super quick. I was shocked by how easy everything has been. I will be adding the rotary accessory very soon, and will be buying from them again. ... show more

  • Don't bother
I bought this as an entry level laser engraver. I wasn't expecting much and didn't get it. Some of the problems are: 1. Firmware updates never complete, always error out. 2. If you follow the assembly instructions to the letter, the movement of the laser head will be constrained by the zip ties holding cables up. 3. Device never detected via wifi. Always have to use USB to connect. 4. Continual intermittent file send errors when processing a file with no explanation as to what needs to be corrected. (By continual intermittent I mean I typically have to restart both the computer and the device multiple times before the file is properly sent to the device.) 5. Design software is very poor and the documentation on it is even worse. If you are looking to get your feet wet with a cheap laser engraver I'd advise picking some other unit. This one is going in the trash. When it works (eventually) it produces some nice output but the frustration of dealing with the repeated failures and positioning errors is not worth it. ... show more

  • Loved it so much i bought it again... and AGAIN!
To preface this review i'm not new to lasers or cnc machines. When looking to expand my businesses throughput it was ideal for me to choose a relatively inexpensive machine that we can push to it's limits. For those that don't know CO2 lasers have a limited life span on it's laser tube and can not be run at max settings without severely reducing said life span. With that in mind we looked towards diode lasers to fill the role of a low cost mass/batch production workhorse. Xtool was frequently in the recommendations for this area of machinery and from my extensive research they've also been pushing the envelope of what diodes could accomplish. Choosing this machine was an absolute no brainer with a brand like that behind their product. With that being said my journey with some of my machines was not perfect however i must give credit where credit is due and commend xtool for a phenomenal customer service experience. One of my machines arrived with a broken limit switch to which i immediately emailed the xtool support team. they got back to me in a few hours and said they would ship me a replacement immediately. Now what i wasn't expecting was the part to literally show up the very next day!!! That's absolutely unheard of. I know that i'm in the same state as their HQ but still that's just flat out impressive! To couple with this i joined their facebook groups and they've incredibly supportive towards highlighting small businesses and dealing with any technical issues users have had. Absolutely amazing community in its own and recommend joining even if you do not own an xtool laser. That's how comprehensive that information is. Now for the actual machine performance. Coming from the world of high power CO2 lasers i honestly wasn't expecting this machine to be capable of much beyond just engraving what we needed to engrave. boy was i wrong. In my short window of testing the machine i immediately realized it's potential for us as a massive revenue generator and bought an additional 5w and 20w on the spot. As i had mentioned prior with the limited life span of the co2 laser tubes, i am now running many of the jobs i'd run on that machine on these xtools. This allows me to have very competitive pricing with output on par with my 100w co2. If you're a small business looking at lasers you absolutely can not go wrong with these machines. I made the money back from my 3 machines in a mere week. Xtool even has a pdf guide on their site to get you started into the industry if you've never done such a thing before. Finally, i want to close this out and say that i appreciate xtools recent push towards laser safety. Its import for all of us to respect the machine and how quickly it can turn dangerous. even though i have purchased the xtool d1 unit as an open frame i would highly recommend spending the extra money for the S1 laser as it's a perfect diode machine in my own opinion. ... show more
