    • Very good for Woodstove use
Very sturdy and seem to be relatively accurate (with 25*F of my IR thermometer). Used on the woodstove currently to measure the temp of the top of the stove in tandem with the flue thermometer to measure combustion gas temps. Magnet is strong enough to hold it in place well.1/3 the price of the brand starting with "Con" but just as accurate. I'll be ordering another for my other woodstove soon. Don't think it would do too well on single wall stove pipe though as there is no screw hold to secure it to the pipe. Spot on though for the wood/coal stove top/side/front. ... show more

    • Great for a smoker, good for a grill
I'm an "outdoor cook" kind of guy, so I do a fair amount of smoking (meats, that is) and grilling. The thermometers on my grill and smoker are notoriously inaccurate, so I generally use an internal over thermometer for better readings. Although this product is labeled as a Wood Stove Thermometer, I thought I would try it on my setup to see if I could avoid opening the door on my smoker, at least, and still get an accurate temperature. My impressions: - The thermometer is well built. It's solid and the numbers are large, high contrast and easy to read. - The magnet is great if you have a steel surface to attach it to, not so great if you have cast iron grates (like most grills do). Attaching the thermometer to the hood of my grill is useless when I'm cooking, because the hood is up and so is not reflecting the temperature of the grill. I finally settled on attaching it to the metal plate that the grates sit on; it gets hot enough to match the temperature of the grates, but it is steel and so the thermometer will stick to it. Score! - The thermometer worked even better on my smoker. I have a vertical propane smoker, and the enclosure is thin enough that the thermometer accurately reflects the interior temperature while attached to the outside. No more needing to open the door to read the oven thermometer. Double score! I intended to test the thermometer with my kitchen oven, but I realized that the enclosure is too thick to carry the internal temperature to the outside (which is why I can touch it, open it, etc. Duh!). I did not think it would be safe to try to attach the thermometer to the inside of the oven, so we'll pass on that test. Overall, I really like this thermometer and I will be using it to make my smoking and grilling experience just that much better. I'll continue to exercise this puppy as I grill and smoke (meats! We've covered this!), and I'll update this review with any significant discoveries. As it is, this Wood Stove Thermometer is recommended for grilling and smoking (meats!). ... show more

Super easy to use - take it out of the package and stick it on your wood stove or pipe. I've got it on my pipe (where the mfg suggests) to monitor the temp. I may move it to the stove, as the double wall pipe I have doesn't get too hot (yet). Just started the wood stove season: first snow today. I like the color coding, the dual temp reading - and it seems to read fairly accurately as it's similar to my other gauge. Nice gadget, works well, seems well made. Can't go wrong. ... show more

    • Great for EXTERNAL use (on a wood stove pipe or a grill), not for use in an oven!
I have a temperature gauge on my grill, and I placed this one side-by-side with it. The SCKEE brand read neck-and-neck with the installed gauge, except that the built-in one lagged behind at the higher temperatures (over 450 degrees) (my guess is there is some soot build-up that acts as insulation and slows down the reading -- plus that gauge is 3 or 4 years old, so it may be getting old and slow and therefore not as accurate as it once used to be). This thing reads the METAL temperature, not the air temperature. Inside an oven (like an oven to bake with), there is a probe that sticks out that reads the AIR temperature, which is naturally lower than the metal temperature, and certainly lower than the flame or electrode temperature. I especially LOVE that it just snaps on with a magnet -- no holes to drill to mount it, and can easily be moved if you need to, If you have a wood stove, and DON'T have one of these things, you owe it to yourself to get one!! The safety factor alone outweighs the minor cost of this. If I accidentally leave the stove damper open too long, the stove will send super-heated gasses up the chimney and could cause a chimney fire. Being able to SEE the stove-pipe temperature may give me an earlier warning than just "guessing" based on how warm the room gets! Definitely gets a full 5-star rating from me -- and also my Recommended vote just for the safety factor! ... show more

I actually bought this to use on my wood stove. But I was using my blackstone and was curious as to the temperature. I put the thermometer on a spatula which was on the surface of the griddle, it worked well. It is small but easy to read. Has 3 different temperature zones as well as temperatures and points in between. I will have a few uses for this as I mentioned I will also be using it for my wood stove. Great for camping too!     • Monitor your woodstove heat
I've been using this to monitor the heat on the woodstove in my greenhouse and it works perfectly for that. It's super easy to use and read and appears to be accurate as far as I can tell. Super fair price and its been very helpful - Im happy with it!
