I have reviewed a lot of IPL devices. Mostly they're pretty unimpressively similar to one another. But, occasionally, I'll encounter one that's significantly better than most. This is such an IPL. This is the rare IPL that I've tested that rates 5*. This IPL device is among the highest power IPL device of the many I've tested. Most are in the range of 36-48W. Crummy ones are as low as 18W. The best ones I've tested in the past are in the range of 60-70W. This one is 90W. This is among the most powerful home IPLs I have ever tested. It seems to use that extra power for superior performance in three ways: 1) The refractory period between flashes in automatic mode is less than a second, which is substantially faster than almost all other IPLs other than Braun and one or two other high-power devices I've evaluated. 2) The ICE cooling/local epidermal cooling effect is appreciably better on this device than on many I've tested. The head remains very cool even during a long use period. This is of significant value if you plan to use this device in automatic mode, where you'll be flashing your skin very rapidly. 3) 4x flashing SHR mode. The IPL provides four flashes very closely together, which should improve efficiency. The performance of this IPL is unquesitonably superior to most of the IPL devices I've tested (and I have tested a lot). Specifics of this IPL device: ** Only performs hair removal. ** Includes ICE skin cooling functionality ** The highest power IPL device I've seen (90W) ** Four power levels (fast, normal, high, SHR) ** No LCD readout of flash number ** "Oblong" shaped unit ** The power cord attaches to the end of the unit (see photos) ** No attachments to change the flash end shape ** Rated for "unlimited" flashes Using very slow-motion photography, I captured a snapshot of the light (see photos). But the light duration is extremely short. You run the tool over the area where you want to remove hair and make sure you expose all the hair follicles in that region. You will see no immediate results. The light signals your hair to stop growing, but it requires multiple treatments over several weeks before you will be expected to see results. Eventually, you should find a substantial reduction in the hair in the treated areas. This device provides "Ice" cooling, and is far more effective at cooling than many IPL devices I've tested. This is particularly important for a device like this, which can flash very quickly. "Ice" is another term for "local epidermal cooling." This is local cooling of the surface skin where the IPL light pulse is being applied. Epidermal cooling is optional for efficient use, but it may make it less unpleasant to use the device for some users. In the box, you get the tool, a power cord, a pair of eye protection glasses, an inexpensive portable razor, a soft-sided travel bag, plus instructions. While in many cases, cost and value aren't well correlated, I think this is the exception. For that added cost, you're getting a device with substantially more power than most (90W)--by far the highest I've seen and substantially more powerful than most IPL devices. You also get a refractory period between flashes that is substantially faster than most, double flashing, and very powerful ICE cooling. This is relatively expensive, but if you want a high quality IPL device, this justifies its price. Pros: ** 90W power supply/IPL device--the highest power of any IPL I've tested ** Fast refractory period between flashes (<< 1s) ** Double and quadruple flashing ** More powerful than typical ICE cooling ** Feels very solidly built. Cons: ** No additional focusing heads ** Oblong shape may not appeal to everyone ** Among the more expensive IPL devices ** No LCD readout of number of flashes ... show more

    • Light emitting hair removal device that's a well thought out package.
Going 5 stars at start because I'm optimistic for the results and the product was packaged amazing, along with assortment wise from the device, folding eye protective wear, power cord and adapter, manual, and compact easy thumb holding starter 5 blade razer all fit well in its included drawstring storage patch. I'm light skinned male, no freckles, small skin mole here or there and dark hair, so skin and hair wise I should be perfect for this product. The manual and quick start guides are well worded and descriptive enough with lots of warnings and references for usage and advice. I have never had any light treatments before. Shaving and waxing are my only references. Well... tweezers too I suppose. After thoroughly reading I have only done a few things, shaved 2in x 4in on each upper arms. One side to compare regrowth and light treatment on other. Not furry. :) but there's hair. Since first step is to shave and then do weeks of treatments about every other day, it'll be awhile before I'd update success or disappointment about what happens to the hair roots and how it comes back. Running through the 4 intensity settings I didn't feel a thing. It is my upper arms so probably the least sensitive of areas though. But still, I was expecting to feel the described rubber band snap on its highest (SHR) mode but didn't. I'm waiting to venture to other areas until after seeing results on my test area. I'd like to think it is because of this products cooling contact window technology feature that contributes to my not feeling anything but maybe a little warmth after several spots. Just pause a bit and then the warmth on the device lessens. Lots of light is shot out of it after all so it should get hot. Hence the brilliance of a cooling window. The power cord is nice and long for moving around and doing it somewhere comfortable. Nice velcro bands to wrap the cords. The device isn't quiet since the fan in it makes most the noise and then the light zaps are very noticeable click click sounds. All in all, the controls and button pushing is easy to use, the device is good sized and can hold it easily and still hit the big zap button from different grips. Well thought out item features and will update results but as it is, I'm pretty confident with it. ... show more

    • Not a great value.
First off, you need to look at the photos on the ad here and see that this device is ineffective for people with lighter, gray or colored hair, and potentially dangerous for people with darker skin. The form factor is not my favorite. I prefer the pistol grip style, but it is what it is. I have tested many IPL devices like this one at a fraction of the price, and see nothing here to make this a good value. ... show more

    • Very easy to use
I was nervous about trying at home laser hair removal, but this has been an easy process. I have been using it for 3 weeks on underarm and lower legs. It only takes a few minutes every other day to do each treatment. I have seem great results so far. My leg hair, which was thinner is growing very slowly so much so that I so not see any growth between shaving every 2 days. The underarm area is a more stubborn hair so I still see growth, but it is much less than before. I still have another week of treatment and expect great results. I would definitely recommend this product. It is very easy to use and I feel there is no way to mess it up. There has been absolutely no pain with the treatments. It is suggested that you avoid sun exposure for 24 hours after treatment, which has not been an issue as it is still pants weather, but that may effect when you choose to do it. ... show more
