I’ve had this unit for a while now and I am no stranger to at-home IPL hair remover. Note, that it is normal to take TIME and sometimes a LOT of time (yes even after the 30 day return window). That’s just how IPL hair removal works. Firstly, this is my first time using This Braun brand. It’s easy to hold and easy to use. It auto senses your skin and adjusts its own level accordingly. Before you use the device, you need to SHAVE (NOT wax, pluck etc) I know you’re worried about hair growing back thicker, but that is a myth. Your hair does not grow back thicker if you shave!! Also, a burning hair smell is NORMAL! And also probably a good sign that it got some hair follicles. -I used this for my upper lip touch ups since it’s been about 7 years since my last treatment. After 2 treatments, my hair is pretty much nonexistent(note that 7 years prior I had about 10 treatments that made my upper lip hair super fine and barely noticeable, so I don’t need as many treatments.) - Next I did my chin. It’s a first time for the chin but my hair isn’t super thick. So after 2 treatments (1 treatment a week) there is a huge reduction of hair. -moving on to my bikini line. I did this area 7 years ago and decided to touch up the bikini line and move a bit closer to the nether regions. This has taken 4 treatments to see good results (hair falling out etc). Unfortunately, this is NOT suited for very dark skin tones. I am an Asian & Native American mix, so my skin is a darker yellow/red mix. It worked well around the bikini and the upper area around the moms pubis. As the skin got darker further down, the device would not allow it to operate, a safety feature to not burn yourself. Now, you can trick the device by aligning the sensors with a lighter patch of skin and with the lamp partially in a darker area, but I highly advise against this. I tested it (for science) and holy mother of Mackerel did that sucker burn. So if your skin is lvl 5 or 6, definitely do not use this. - finally the armpits. I’ve only done 3 treatments (1 treatment a week). I’ve noticed considerable slowness in regrowth. Will need more treatments for sure, but it’s definitely giving results at 2-3 treatments.     • Not a silver bullet, but does reduce hair
I've used this about 10x total, over 9 months. I'm a "good candidate" with very fair skin and dark brown-to-black hair. It definitely reduces the amount of hair that grows back, but so far I haven't found it permanent. PAIN: very manageable, almost can't feel it if I take a couple ibuprofen. TIME: Takes awhile to get good coverage and zap every area. For entire bikini area, about 20 minutes. For a leg, probably another 10-15 min each leg. If you just want to zap some chin hairs, maybe 2 min. EFFECTIVENESS: I tried using my legs as an experiment; shaved both and lasered the right leg only. After a few times, I'd let the hair grow out to observe, and it was obvious right had much less hair - about 25% were large patches completely bald, the remaining area 50%-90% of the hairs in were gone. However, after then NOT lasering the right leg for a few months, they were back to a similar amount of hair. I see a similar effect on the bikini area, though I didn't do a true "control" like with the legs. OVERALL: I wish it was a truly permanent solution, but it's just not. however, I still give this a good review because it's clearly a well made product and does remove a lot of hair and for a longer time than shaving or waxing. I struggle with razor burn, and before having this I'd shave, get razor burn everywhere and ingrowns, wait at least 4 days before skin calmed down enough to shave again. Now that I'm using this and a lot of hair is reduced each time, there's not as much angry razor burned skin (If I'm using this at least weekly, there can be very very little razor burn as there just aren't as many hairs to shave). I have had laser hair removal in the past, and it worked. I am an excellent candidate - in the winter, I'm very fair with very dark hair. I do tan like a mofo in the summer though, so only part of the year. Regardless, I was happy with my prior laser hair removal along my bikini line, but DANG! That shit hurt. Decided to try this out to see if it would work on my armpits, which I also had hit with a laser previously, but due to moving I wasn't able to complete all my sessions, so my results weren't as good there. I've been using this about twice a week for a little over a month, and I would say the hair in my pits is 80-90% gone. And most impressively, it doesn't hurt! The little sensor lights all three bars up for me most of the time, and unless I go over the area 3+ times, I don't feel it. If I do go over it multiple times, I get a little bit of a sting, but nothing like that hardcore SNAP of the laser hair removal. I also decided to use it a few times on my mustache area. I don't have crazy mustache hair, but I figured it's better to do it while I'm young to avoid the old lady whiskers when I'm older and the hair is gray or white. Sho' nuff, even though I only did that area a few times, last time I looked at it up close in the mirror, I only had two little patchy patches left. So I'll hit that a few more times even though I'm starting to tan up for the summer. Overall, I'm impressed with this little baddie. This winter, when I pale out again, I'll start doing my lower legs with it, which is what I really bought it for, assuming it otherwise worked. If you have a good complexion for it, absolutely buy this sucker. My only regret is that in retrospect, I do wish I had bought the cordless version because plugging it in to use it each time is a little bit of a pain. ... show more

    • Complete waste of money and time!
I have been regularly (as specified in the instructions) using this waste of money for over a year. There has been NO change to hair that I've been trying to remove. I bought this to use on my forearms. After a year, I still have to shave my arms. It sucks. There are not even any bare spots on my arms. All follicles still produce.
