  • Even though it looks like it, this is NOT a toy!
This little 3D printer is a little beast! I have been 3D printing for a while now, and have one of the older Ender 3 clones. It's always a hassle getting that thing set up properly, and getting proper prints out of if is challenging. When I received this one, I was up and running in minutes. the Tina 2S comes fully assembled, and is ready to print after installing the mobile app, which allows you to connect it to wifi and monitor your print remotely. The good part (for me) is that I do not need to use the app if I don't want to. I have a Raspberry Pi with Octoprint dedicated to my 3D printer, and plugging this in over USB allowed me to control it from there as well. I had very little hopes for my first print: Most of the time the first print requires tweaking the settings, performing the bed levelling, etc. Not with the Tina 2S: I uploaded some GCode and started the print. The printed did the automatic bed-leveling, homing and started printing. The first test print came out great immediately. After that, I printed a spool holder that allows my regular large spools to feed filament (instead of having to wind filament onto the small spool that hangs off the side). That consisted of 4 prints total, which the little thing did without complaining. After the 4 prints were done, I had some filament left over so I decided to print a little octopus: A print-in-place design where the arms are movable. Printing this checks tolerances and print accuracy, because these arms should be 'disconnected' at the joints. To my surprise, it printed very clean and as soon as I took it off the build plate, the arms were loose. There was only 1 link that has a small glob, causing the joint not to be completely clean in it's movement, but that was solved with some manually forced movement. What I love about this printer is that it is hassle-free. It's a great printer for beginners and is more powerful than you would expect. The built-in bed light is a very nice add-on, even though it is just a few LED's on an LED light strip. It does the job wonderfully. It also works with Cura slicer, and there is even a Tina 2S printer profile included in the default list of printers. Drawbacks of this machine are minor: Of course the build volume is small, but most of what I print still fits (or can be made to fit with minor alterations). The other thing is the tiny spool on the side, which is easily remedied by printing a spool holder for standard-sized spools. From a safety perspective, the hot-end is well protected and it is hard to hurt yourself with it. I would have no problem letting younger children (8+) use this printer, and I think it could prove to be a valuable tool for youngsters with an interest in making stuff.   • Capable but it comes with some issues you need to be an expert to resolve
I am going give you the summary first and then go into the details of what I had to resolve to make it print right and you can skip those if you don't care. Overall this is a surprisingly capable machine once you tune it properly. Supports were not difficult to remove which means there is reasonable cooling relative to speed you print. Most of the things I tried that were print in place moveable objects did in fact move after bring printed which means it has reasonable precision in placing the print head. There were two big problems I encountered although the manufacturer could easily fix these if they were so inclined but as is I find it difficult to say a beginner would have faired well with my machine after a day or two of using it. The first big problem is the z offset from the factory on mine was -1.4 and should have been closer to -1.08. To put this in perspective you print in 0.2mm layers and on mine the print head and bed were 0.32mm too close to each so it was burying the first and second layer into the print bed really hard and all kinds of things go wrong when you do this. The prints were really stuck to the build plate, almost not removable, and there were no tools provided to help remove the print. This also causes the build plate to get destroyed prematurely as you are pulling black flecks from the build plate each time. Finally, this is a easy way to get a filament jam would would be no fun for a beginner. For this reason alone, I can't say this a good choice for beginner. I immediately recognized the issue and now that I have it properly adjusted prints stay in place but can be easily pulled off by hand with no tools but a beginner would have likely broken something first. The solution is very simple, if you are an expert - you need to calibrate the z-offset properly. The menu option is "Probe Z offset". I reduced mine to -1.08. It's easiest to start a sacrificial print and adjust it close to zero until filament doesn't stick and then move it down until it starts sticking properly. It take some patience and time to get it right. There are a ton of videos on this on YouTube and there are instruction in the manual but they don't tell you need to do this. The second problem is with the way the Wiibuilder application generates G-Code. If you look at the G-Code lines 30 is M109 S215 which is followed like line 31 which is M190 S50. These need to be reversed - you can fix them in the editor in Wiibuilder. M109 says wait for the extruder to heat up to 215C then M190 says wait for the bed to heat up 50C. When the extruder gets to 215 (or whatever temp you say), it then sits there waiting for a few minutes for the bed to reach temperature since it heats up more slowly and filament starts to ooze out of the nozzle. This filament then messed up my first layers since I do not waste filament printing a raft. You simply need to flip the order of the commands and wait for the bed then wait for the extruder so the extruder will not sit idle at melting temperature for a long time. In most slicers you can configure the template for the starting G-Code and its a simple fix but I could not figure out how to do this in Wiibuilder other than to edit the G-Code yourself. I would also recommend finding the "z hop when retracted" setting in the advance retraction setting in the slicer and turning it on to avoid the nozzle scrapping the top of the prints when it moves. I did set up WIFI and tried printing from the app. I was not impressed. A lot of stuff on the app was too large for this printer and most of what I did find that worked was thumbnail size. It needs to come with a proper sized spool holder. The printer is too small to print a good one and hardly anyone sells the baby spools you can put on the side. It also doesn't have a filament runout sensor so when the baby spool runs out you get nothing. Build plate life is reasonable but not as good as I was expecting. The type of build plate they include is definitely a consumable you will need to replace. After 70 prints I now consistently get black pieces of the build plate sticking to bottom surface of my prints when I use certain areas and need to either buy a new build plate or put another surface on this one Would I buy this? No not at the price of $209 at time of writing this review and having experienced one first hand. The sell here is an easy to use out of the box printer that you can print from an app without needing to learn to slice and download models. A printer that does not need to be user calibrated or tuned. Just hand it to your child. There are mini printers that full auto everything, have a better build plate and have a great app for only $40 more. The app just was not that good and hardly had any models on it that fit this printer. Out of the box it made prints that could not be removed from the build plate and it was destroying the build plate. The slicer has simple to fix issues in the G-Code that every other slicer I use already does correctly so these just shouldn't be there in a beginner out of the box experience.   • Awesome beginner Printer
This 3d printer is awesome for beginner. It's firmly easy to download files, slice them, then print. It does use a fair amount of pla to level the bed, but for level objects it works well. The spool holder doesn't hold well, but work ok for what it is. I suggest printing a spool holder. The program is ok but I wish it had more functionality. ... show more
