This was so close to being perfect for our needs. It is a nice size and can hold a lot of stuff, from business-sized documents to small boxes. The included half shelf is nice for organizing. I found the keypad to be both easy to set a combination with, and to use for opening/closing. Having a key for emergency access plus a battery pack for backup makes this a tremendous value. It isn't too heavy to move around the house as needed. However, because of how the door is hinged, it does not open wide enough to easily insert or remove longer items. While there is room inside for objects just over 12 inches across, the door opening is only nine inches across. Letter-sized file folders, for example, have to be manipulated in weird angles to get them inside. If they are rigid files or documents, there is almost no chance to insert them if there is anything else in the safe. When the shelf is in place it makes it even harder Even with the shelf removed, I often had to take almost everything out of the safe in order to access 8.5x11 files. If you are only placing smaller items inside, or can fold your documents, this is a great safe. But the inability to easily store and access file folders forced us to return ours. Which is a bummer because this is a much better value than what we will likely end up replacing it with. Also worth noting, while this safe does not claim to be either water or fire proof, because of the mounting holes on the back it most definitely will not keep the elements out. For the price, this is a nice safe. All functions (door, latches, keys and electronic keypad) work smoothly. It's not the sturdiest metal but for the price it's pretty darned good ESPECIALLY when you bolt it to a surface (either the wall or ground or both). Pre-drilled holes are on the back and the bottom of the box. Two bolts are included but I plan to buy two more at the local hardware store so that I can bolt it to a surface in the back and the bottom. ... show more

The reviews regarding the locking issues are true. I was able to program a code but it was useless. Keys were difficult to use/fitting issue. I could manually turn the knob Into locking position but keys nor code would keep it there. Returned next day and purchased a different one. Also purchased this as a brand new item and out of box appeared as a return. There was scratches/residue on knob. No protective film and a sticker hanging off. Nothing against a used item but when I purchase new and paid a new price, I expect new and this made me question this seller as well. ... show more

Worked great for a few months then I had to change the batteries & reset my code. After that it would not latch back to stay closed. Also it would not take the key. I couldn’t push the key in to lock it manually.
