I have a door with a Euro style lock (combined deadbolt and handle with a locking cylinder). Because of this I could not use a normal “smart lock”. I tried another option which failed miserably, but this product was fantastic! It literally installed in minutes with only a Philips head screw driver, and fit my door perfectly. The design is brilliant. As you can see from the picture my setup required a non-standard installation, but the design handled it without a problem. I was concerned that the sticky pad mounting would not hold up, but it has without a problem. All in all there was zero modification to my existing lock, zero drilling, and just adjusting the height with the screw driver. It has also worked flawlessly. I live in a pretty hard environment with high humidity, but this has worked like a champ, not once failing to lock or unlock. Not only that, manual usage with either the key or the knob is as smooth and easy as when it was just the lock. My door uses a double lock (turn the handle twice to lock) and this learned that and always works. Finally the hub integration is flawless. I get notifications anywhere about the door locking or unlocking. I can lock/unlock the door anywhere, and best of all I can just say “Lock Bedroom” on Alexa/Google and the door locks. Unlocking requires me to say a PIN for safety but Google/Alexa prompts me for that after I say “Unlock Bedroom”. The bedroom door is an exterior door, and the elements have not affected the operation at all. ... show more

Pattern: WiFi Smart Lock with Keypad Touch
This is another great idea from Switchbot - helping people "smarten" their homes without having to invest into huge, expensive retrofits. Like the smartbot button pushers, this is designed to add functionality to the things you already have. And like most of the products from Switchbot, it's well thought-out and (if you're already part of the ecosystem) easy to set up and use. The big draw of this is the fact that you don't have to buy and install new lock hardware. Instead, this thing turns your lock for you. That means that you'll have to do some fiddling to get the right fit (it provides three options of lock-turning, dependent on size of your lock) and some adjusting of positioning of the unit. It means that things won't be perfect, but you should be able to find an option that is good enough to work. Some people don't like the Switchbot app - I compare it to IKEA's smart home options and apps (another low investment, made for regular folks ecosystem I think), and it compares very favorably. Switchbot products connect to the app much more quickly and easily, controls are intuitive for the most part, and things reliably do what you ask them to.     • Great product but has a few small issues

Overall, this smart door lock does what it is supposed to do. Installation was straightforward, although longer than most IOT smart products due to having to fit it to the lock and the door. Other reviewers noted that the lock jammed for them. I can see how this happens, and I can suggest a workaround. The problem is that the latch turning part of the device is too loose for some doors, and it results in the device getting into a bad position with the latch. For my door, I used some tape to keep the mechanism from falling into a bad position. Switchbot ought to update the mechanism to clamp onto the latch or stick to it in some manner to prevent this from happening. Doing so would also fix another problem with this device that I describe next. This product has a feature that detects if your door is locked or unlocked. This feature works very well if you always use the Switchbot app to lock or unlock your door, or if you lock and unlock your door from the inside. However, if you lock or unlock your door from the outside (such as by using the key) then the switchbot will fail to properly detect if the door is locked or unlocked. This happens because of the gap between the turning mechanism and the door latch itself. That gap means that opening and closing the door with the key will not fully turn the mechanism of the Switchbot (it might go only 80% for instance) even though the actual door latch is fully turned. Switchbot could also solve this problem with software, but I think the better solution would be a tighter fit on the door latch as mentioned above. ... show more
