    • Superior lock, but not really compatible with Ring in 2021
Absolutely in love with this lock! I've been wanting it for so long and I was very excited to see it go on sale for Prime Day. We had the kit installed in less than 15 minutes and that was without really reading through the instructions. It set up with Apple Homekit instantly and now I can easily locl/unlock the door with Siri, set automation to lock/unlock based on time of day, sunrise/sunset, and if my phone is home or away. Truly do love how it integrates with your current lock. I did try to set it up with Ring to automate it with our security system but as of June 2021 it is only compatible with the 1st Gen Ring Pro Doorbell. That doesn't work for us because we have the 3rd Gen non-pro doorbell and this lock isn't for our front door. We actually have this on our back door and have the Schlage Connect Smart Deadbolt Z-Wave that we ordered with our own system on our front door. Comparing the two, the Schlage app is an absolutely terrible experience and we never got our lock to sync with their app. The Level Lock app was very straightforward and synced instantly once the battery was put into the lock. The Level Lock is also MUCH MUCH MUCH quieter than the Schlage. You can hear the Schlage lock in every room of our house, but you can barely hear the Level Lock even when you're in the same room. While the Schlage has a loud, mechanical sound to let you know it's locked, the Level Lock has a soft little chirp to confirm it's locked. I'm a big fan of electric locks because I believe the ability to automate them helps make sure that you're being safe and locking the doors behind you or in the evenings, even when you get busy or forgetful. I also value being able to double check if I've locked up my house to have peace of mind with the app. I plan to order another Level Lock for the door between our garage and laundry room just to make sure our house is always secure. The fact that the level lock can go into an already existing lock, is very straightforward to set up, and works right out of the box is what's sold me to be a repeat customer. ... show more

We had a new door installed in the garage and wanted a way to when the garage door opened and closed that the door into the kitchen would also lock or unlocked. This has worked well for years now. The key to it’s success is making sure the lock when it’s closing has no obstructions to hitting the opening on the door frame. The lock isn’t as strong as a person to push through colliding with the door frame notch if the lock isn’t properly aligned. So make sure you check that. Never had connection issues. Only suggestion is it would let me know when the battery is getting too weak to lock the door properly. But a quick CR2 battery change fixes that. ... show more

    • Does not connect to other apps as advertised. Harder to install than advertised
I have been trying for a year to get and keep my Level connected to Ring and Amazon. I've replaced my Level once and my Ring twice. The connectivity only lasts for a few minutes/hours then it goes away. To restore I have to remove the lock from the Level and Ring apps and reinstall. This is especially hard when I have to "reset" the lock to factory norms (erase its current stored connectivity.) The lock is frustrating to no end. I would never buy another. The Level Bolt requires research! First there is the “Works with Alexa, Works with Ring” claim. You need to know that it works with Alexa only if you are willing to turn on Amazon Sidewalk. There are pluses and minuses here, but do your research to determine if you are willing to share some of your WiFi with the “neighborhood.” Then you need one very important thing, a wired Ring Doorbell at the same door. Those are some big requirements. Does your door have an existing hardwired doorbell? Do you have a Ring Pro doorbell or are you willing to buy and install one? You see, the ONLY way to bridge the Level to the outside world beyond Bluetooth connectivity with your phone is via the SPECIFIC Ring doorbell. So if you want all the features that compete with August and other smart locks you must install this one product, which isn’t cheap. AND you need to be OK with Sidewalk. This information is almost nonexistent on Amazon and you have to drill way down on the Level website to find it. Second the Bolt was easy to install, as advertised. BUT, the strike plate on the door jamb is another thing. The existing plate on my door was not compatible with the larger bolt of the Level lock. So the strike plate provided by Level needed to be installed. This was an issue because the existing plate was smaller than the Level plate. The mounting holes for the Level plate didn’t line up with the holes in the jamb. So we needed to drill new holes. The Level plate is quite thick. It didn’t fit in the gap between the door and the jamb. So It needed to be “mortised” in using a hammer and chisel. Then the strike pocket wasn’t deep enough so it too needed to be widened and deepened. So the tools needed included a power drill, two drill bits, a hammer and a sharp chisel. The level of skill required may exceed the abilities of the average DIYer. The Level Bolt is a slick piece of well engineered tech. It’s features compete well with the competition. But be ware of the bridge (hub) requirements of the Ring Pro to connect it to the outside world. Hope your connectivity works. And hope that your door prep is compatible with the parts provided. ... show more
