Description

The SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Door has a double antenna, which reads a cat’s microchip when it comes into and goes out of the house. This allows you to restrict certain cats to indoor-only, whilst allowing other cats access to the outdoors. If your cat is not microchipped, the DualScan cat door can also be used with a SureFlap RFID Collar Tag. The DualScan cat door can store up to 32 cats and it is compatible with 9, 10 and 15 digit microchips (except those staring with 000, 010 or 020). A SureFlap Cat Door Mounting Adaptor is required for glass installations and one or more SureFlap Cat Door Tunnel Extenders may be required for wall installations. The DualScan cat door is battery powered using 4 AA batteries which last up to a year with normal use. When the batteries start to run low, an indicator light will flash. The DualScan cat door has a 4-way manual lock to enable locking to any combination of in/out and a central magnet on the door prevents it from flapping in the wind. The dimensions of the flap are 142mm (W) x 120mm (H). This is the smallest area your cat will have to pass through.

  • Works really well - but they are serious about metal interference!
We have one big old senior cat (19lbs) who comes and goes as he pleases - he never leaves our yard. We also have a younger, far more adventurous cat that is not allowed out under any circumstances - he will jump the fence in a heartbeat and disappear for two days. So this was a perfect solution for us - with one big question mark. Could our senior cat even fit through the hole? It's a very small opening, and there's only one size to this. I tested him before I bought this door - I cut a flap in a cardboard box and put some treats in it, and he squeezed through just fine. (Ironically, the treats are how he got to be so fat ...) This door was bought to replace a manually operated door, which we used before we got our younger cat. It fit in the same opening, which had been cut into the aluminum panel at the bottom of a storm door. Despite the fact that the instructions cautioned against interference if mounted in metal, it was worth a shot because the hole had already been cut. Mounted like this, the performance was inconsistent - sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I called the company to see if there might be some other cause i could look into - they listened carefully and were very certain that this was the problem. They recommended the circular mounting bracket that will offset the sensors from the metal by an inch or two, which they say is enough. Instead, I found a nice piece of plexiglass in the garage, left over from another project, that I repurposed as a window to replace the aluminum. The installation is very straightforward - but it does require a little bit of skill. Basically, it's "trace the hole, cut the hole, push one end through and stick the other side on with two screws and you're done!", but the trick is in cutting the hole. Initially (with the original door) I just traced the hole and cut it out with a pair of tin snips. The plexiglass was a little trickier. Going through a wall or an exterior door would require some thought for sure. I measured the size and cut the plexiglass on a tablesaw, but I put masking tape on both sides to prevent chipping. Same with the cutout - I traced out the rough size of the opening using the door, then used masking tape on both sides. I made a more accurate line with a marker, drilled a couple of pilot holes and cut the opening out with a jigsaw and a fine-tooth blade. Electronically, it works great. After a little encouragement, our old-timer just sticks his nose up against the little window and we can hear the "click" that unlocks it. I think he has learned to listen for the click himself. We'll see if the other cat figures this out and tries to follow close behind - I wouldn't put it past him. There's a locking mechanism that offers all possibilities. It can be locked both ways, or open one way and locked the other (right now we have some rodents in the yard; we have it set to let him out but not in; we want to check first to see if he's bringing in a mouse or rat). It can also be set to let him in but not back out again - which is great for keeping him in at night. It can also be unlocked both ways for the cat with the right chip, or unlocked and completely overridden to let anyone in or out. Once again, the big downside is the size; it's really tight for our cat. The company assures me that they are "in production" for a larger door, which I will probably buy once it's available. ... show more

  • Works Great!!
I was skeptical about this door and how well it would work, but it works great. My husband installed it easily and it registered my cats' chips as soon as they put their heads through it. I had to push one kitty's head in, and he didn't go out right away but did later. The other just darted right through. They have been in and out with no problem. We had a problem with raccoons getting in, but hopefully that problem will be solved. No racoons yet!! ... show more

  • Great customer service and good quality door
Ordered and installed but sensor for outside wasn't working. Contacted company after 30 day amazon return policy expired and they sent a whole new door! Outstanding customer service! Door is easy to program and easy to install and over all well made. Im very happy with it . My cat not so much! I just wish they made one a little larger for my 14 1/2 pound cat! He is reluctant to use it because he literally has to squeeze through the door and i can imagine it is uncomfortable for him. My other suggestion would be if they could better insulate / weatherseal the door for people who live in Northern climates. ... show more

  • Brilliant concept, great support
Updated review: I'm upgrading my review from two stars to five stars after SureFlap sent me a replacement for my defective door. I was unhappy that I had to wait several weeks for a replacement because SureFlap didn't have any in stock, but it finally arrived and is working great. I debated whether to give it four or five stars because of the delay, but SureFlap's support is so excellent that I decided to give it five stars. The replacement door works exactly as it should, keeping out other animals while letting my cat in and out. I am still having a problem with the loud unlocking sound scaring my cat, but he's getting used to it. The one criticism I have of the door is that the programming sequences are overly complicated for things like letting the door swing freely (which I had to do until the replacement door arrived) or as a one way door. However most people will never encounter a need for these tasks. SureFlap's support is outstanding, and is the main reason I'm giving it five stars instead of four. They reply to emails the same day, within a very short time, and they try to find solutions to problems. I can't praise them highly enough. Original review: =========== My big mistake was not returning this to Amazon for an exchange instead of contacting Sureflap support. If I did, I'd probably be writing a glowing five star review instead of only two stars. I'm hoping I'll be able to update this review more positively if SureFlap ever sends me a working replacement for mine. Unfortunately I didn't do an Amazon exchange and I didn't learn until after my 30 day exchange window ended that SureFlap wouldn't be able to send me a replacement immediately. As a result, I have a non-functional cat door and only SureFlap's promise that they will send me a replacement someday. They can't tell me when because they don't have any in stock. I really want to like this cat door. It's a brilliant concept, the build quality seems excellent, and I am very impressed with SureFlap's support, other than the fact that they can't tell me when they'll send me a replacement. Support has been outstanding otherwise. They reply to emails the same day and they have been great at sending me a test kit and a possible workaround. Unfortunately, the workaround didn't work. The basic problem is that the cat door lets my cat in but not out. The result has been my cat waking me up several times each night to let him out. I'm literally losing sleep over it. I'm not happy about it. SureFlap suggested turning off the locking, so any animal can enter or leave, but that could allow raccoons to enter. I've already had a problem with raccoons destroying food in my kitchen by entering the old cat door that let any animal in. That's the entire reason I bought the SureFlap. If I don't receive the replacement door soon, I'll have to buy a competitor's product and give up on SureFlap. I hope it doesn't come to that. I want to like this cat door. I had really high hopes for it. ... show more

  • Works great, reliable
We've been using this door for over a year now. It works great! Our cats can come and go as they please. Only complaint is that the "in only" mode doesn't work very well, since our cat learned he can get close to the door to unlock it and then pull the door inwards to go out as he pleases. The other drawback of this door (which isn't really a fault of the door itself) is that our cats can bring their catches into the house at will. We're constantly intercepting and chasing chipmunks, etc. back outside. ... show more
