We want to redo our family room fireplace but just don't want to spend the money on a gas insert right now. This was a great alternative ( and a ton cheaper). It puts out more heat than I expected which is fantastic. It's very pretty and the lights are very realistic. Two family members may be getting one after seeing ours. The remote makes it very easy to use. The shut off on the side of the unit makes it nice for me to turn off so the kids can't turn it on with the remote if we aren't with them. It's a great safety feature for parents of little ones. It doesn't get hot and the it does have an auto shut off. There is no way to tell what settings are on. No visual display. We use it in a wood burning fireplace and it takes the chill out of a 24x18 open room. Very nice in the chilly mornings

It’s amazing. The flames and log look very realistic. It’s nice having a fire without the heat. The only option that would be nice is if they had a crackling sounds affect to go with it.

The media could not be loaded. Update: This raises the temperature of my (small) livingroom 3 degrees in a hour, 5 in about 2 hours and 7 if it's on most of the day. It does seem to be quite a bit cheaper to run than my baseboard heaters too, which is a huge bonus. Ive had it 2 months now and i love it! To be fair it hasn't gotten cold enough to rely on this only for heat but from what I can tell it puts off quite a bit! I have a fake fireplace in my apt and this is perfect for a cozy atmosphere. The flames reflect off the cinder block beautifully. I can't wait for a cold snowy night to sit in front of this. And I don't say that often! ... show more

    • Our alternative to gas
We couldbt use our ventless gas log because we hates the burnt air odor. We are sensitive to that. We went to a store that specializes in fireplace inserts and they were talking about pricey conversions, including rebuilding the whole fpl for outside venting. When we looked at the electric fpls they were estimating a lot for the work. I saw this inexpensive unit on Amazon, then called a plumber to cap off the gas. The total bill from the plumber was about $200. I went further and had an outlet installed in the fpl and that was $325 more, but with baskets set on the sides of the fpl, we really had the cord concealed so I am not sure how many others would add that expense. Is an electric fire ideal? Well, for us, yes, because we can't use the gas log. Does it look real? No. Does a gas log look like a real fire? No. You get used to it. This unit makes a crackling sound which is very real though. Gas will not. We put it on almost every night. You see it out of the corner of your eye and after awhile, with the crackling, you might prefer it to gas. Don't expect it to heat much. We have high ceilings and we don't bother with the heat element. No point. Maybe if your room is small it will help. It's just a small space heater with the coils on. But we like it. It was our solution. ... show more
