I have been installing remote starters for about 30 years. The Start-X unit is basic, but functions the same as the factory remote starter. This was the easiest install I have ever done. It took me 5 min on a 2013 Ram 1500 to have the wiring harnesses installed. It took far longer to install the flash software and flash the module. The whole project still took less than one hour.     • STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS BELOW FOR 14’ RAM 1500! EASY!!

The media could not be loaded. I can’t believe how easy this was to install and program! Maybe 30 minutes from start to finish with programming. You do jump around in the instructions a bit, but it’s incredibly easy, just follow the instructions. Downloading the firmware was easy. Sign up, check your junk mail for activation email, activate account. Download what the book says to download. Works for Mac and windows. STEP BY STEP (2014 RAM 1500), 1. Install new obd T-harness. 2. Remove dash panel. 3. Install “main T-harness” ignition harness to ignition. 4. Connect main t-harness to new obd harness via the canbus connector. 5. While connecting black connector to module, hold reset button, hold until red light flashes on module. 6. Connect blue and white connectors to module. 7. Close driver door. 8. Open driver door. 9. Press unlock multiple times on factory key fob until module LED flashes green. 10. Turn Key to ON position and wait for LED on module to turn solid red. (I accidentally started mine, but it worked.) 11. Turn key off 12. Remove key 13. Insert key and start vehicle. 14. Wait for LED on module to flash green and remove key. 15. Disconnect blue and white plug from module FIRST! 16. Disconnect black module plug LAST. 17. Head inside to flash module on computer. Internet access needed to sign up and download Weblink Desktop Software. 18. Click “Sign up” button in top right corner at weblinkupdater.com 19. Sign up. 20. Check JUNK mail for activation email. 21. Resend activation link if email doesn’t show up within a minute. 22. Download weblink desktop software. 23. Plug in module with supplied USB adapter. 24. Open Weblink software. 25. Click Weblink RS. 26. Click “Start Extended Programming”. 27. Click “Continue Extended Programming”. 28. Once complete, unhook module and head back out to vehicle. 29. Reconnect module, all three plugs. White, blue, black. (If colors haven’t changed) 30. Turn key to ON position. 31. LED should turn solid GREEN for 2 seconds. According to the book, of it doesn’t turn green, try proceeding anyway. (It came on for me). 32. Turn key to OFF position. 33. Start the vehicle. 34. Turn off the vehicle and remove key. 35. Get out and close door. 36. Press lock button on key fob 3 times. 37. Vehicle starts!!!!!! 38. Unlock vehicle 39. Open door, get in, close door. (Important for anti-theft) 39. Insert Key and turn to run position. 40. Press brake. 41. Select Drive or Reverse. 42. Go for a test drive! 36-41 have to happen in that order every time you start the truck or the truck will go into anti-theft and shut off. I saw a lot of complaints about this, but I love it because it protects you as the owner!! Very simple! Pretty impressed with myself and you will be too! 😉 ... show more

Easy to connect and install, programming took a little more time and required an update of the unit before it worked. Could potentially be above the comfort level of someone not tech savvy but works great once programmed.

    • Was easy to install, NEVER worked - Update - Final Update
Final Update: Customer Service was great, they mailed me a new module, this one programmed the first time and remote start works great, just in time for the colder weather. It's very, very easy to install. If you follow the programming instructions, and watch the LED light closely it's a snap to program. I will buy one for my wife's Kea as soon as it's available. This was easy to install, the programming left a lot to be desired, I followed instructions exactly and the module seemed to complete the programming correctly. Reinstalled the module and completed the instructions. Closed and locked the vehicle, tried remote starting several times and nothing. The module seems completely dead once programmed, not a flash, no attempt to start. Tried support, only email support M-F 8-5, well most of us work those hours so how am I supposed to get help. I really hoped this was going to be as easy as advertised, but not in my case. I'll give them a chance to assist in figuring this out, otherwise it's going back and I'll try another brand... Update, I tried a few times to do the key programming and NOW it says I have exceeded the key cloning limit and I can't do anything. I guess this thing goes back... Update 2 - I am very pleasantly surprised, and received an email response back over the weekend even though they were closed. Then first thing Monday, another response that they have shipped another module to me. Hopefully I can get this one working. I'll update once I get it and try programming it. ... show more

    • Works Great on my 2013 RAM 2500 Power Wagon
I purchased this product and waited over a year before installing it. RemoteStartX tech support is great! I called them because I did not follow the instructions as I should have and missed an important step. They set me straight. Then the installation was relatively simple. Again, as long as you follow instructions. Just realize there are essentially three parts to the install. You need get to the WINX FOB key module, install the purchased module and reset it, download/install an app to a pc or mac which then allows you to FLASH the module, finish the install. Once I followed the instructions and did things in the correct order, the remote start works beautifully as expected. Love it! ... show more
