  • Reads air temperature rather than stove surface

The thermometer does not have a probe in contact with the stove surface. The sensing coil sits in the air inside a housing with an opening to outside air. So the temperature being measured is a mixture of air from the stove surface and the room. When the coil heats, the indicator moves as it should, but it is making an estimate based on air near the surface rather than metal temperature. ... show more
