Used this in front of the wood stove to protect our new carpet. It didn’t work, coals fell onto the mat and the bottom melted into the carpet. Ruined the brand new carpet.

I am pleased with the coverage size. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and have had no problems with the mat. There hasn't been a large ember to land on the mat so I can't yet say how well it will hold up in that situation. However, I can attest to It holding up well to one of my cats trying to use it for her nails, lol. It's nice and thin also, so there's not much of a trip hazard which is a bonus! I haven't had a problem with the mat moving much. I will use some stays if I have any problems with it moving around. As the winter goes on I will update my review to show how well the mat is holding up. Though I must say, I am rather hoping to not find out just how well it holds up to hot embers! Fits perfect in front of the fireplace. It’s black and you can see the fibers in it, but I didn’t get a splinter like the other reviews said. I dont wear shoes in the house and I’ve stepped on it many times and no issues. Good value and will buy again if needed. Thanks

We heat our house with a wood stove, so a hearth rug is a necessity, especially when adding logs to the fire. This does resist sparks & bits of hot coals if they pop out of the stove when adding wood. We have a spray bottle with water to extinguish any hot coals that happen to fall out & having the fire resistant mat allows us to scoop up any coals, either before or after they've been extinguished. It's important to cath & remove any coals that come out of the stove because even though this is fireproof, it's very thin & I'm sure any coals left on it would damage the floor because of the heat. It does prevent coals from igniting the floor or other nearby objects. Se ended up putting a small rug underneath this to create a barrier between this mat & the floor underneath. It works okay, but in my opinion, it would be much more effective if it was a thicker material That has some weight to it to keep it in place & to offer an insulating layer between the mat & the floor. We are using it, even though we aren't entirely happy with it because of the above reasons. It is working with the insulation of a piece of scrap rug underneath. ... show more
