I have a cell phone I use with an always connected hotspot, which means I have to keep it charged. It is not good to keep Lithium batteries always on a charger at 100%. This item lets me set up a 'rule' to charge the phone 1.5 hours in the morning and again in the evening, something much better for battery health.     • Difficult set up...then continually goes "off line".
I had very high hopes I could use this USB switch to control an external fan which helps cool a mini computer. Unfortunately the switch is nowhere near as reliable as a simple 110v smart plug. The first problem was that it was very difficult to get the switch to pair with the eWeLink app which you download to operated the switch. The app will not pair in either "auto" mode or the manual mode which are the two ways identified in the manual and the app to make the connection. I found, after hours of fighting this thing, that the only way to get it to pair was to go to the app and then shoot a photo of the QR code which apparently correctly identifies the switch and allows it to proceed with paring. The far greater problem, however, is that once paired the switch will not stay on line, And once it goes "off line" the only way to get it going again is unplug and restart the unit and the pairing. Yes, it can be done, but when why even have a wireless remote switch...if you can not reliably control the switch with a remote app because the switch is off line and you have to walk over to it to get it restarted. Just a total fail in my book. Too bad, because a USB switch like this could really be useful for a number of applications...such as turning off/on individual USB ports. I now use a simple smart plug with the fan plugged into a USB power adapter which plugs into the smart plug. Not elegant but it works and it stays "on line" for whenever I need it. ... show more

    • Finicky initial setup, but works great with Home Assistant
I bought this adapter to use with a wall mounted tablet (Fire HD 10) that I use for my Home Assistant dashboard. It's bad to keep tablet batteries at 100% all the time as they can start swelling up, which is a fire hazard. I use this adapter to start charging when the tablet's battery is below 20%, and stop charging when it's above 70% (battery percentage is reported to Home Assistant via the Home Assistant Android app). It works well!. I could have used a regular smart outlet for this, but they usually produce a loud clicking noise when turning on or off due to the type of relays they use. On the other hand, this USB adapter is silent. There's a custom integration called "SonoffLAN" that easily integrates this device into Home Assistant. You do still need to use the eWeLink app for initial setup, but after it's all set up you never need to touch that app again and can instead control it via Home Assistant. The eWeLink app is a bit fiddly, but once you pair it it works fine. I plugged in the adapter then immediately scanned the QR code included in the box, and it worked. Note that the adapter is only in pairing mode for 2-3 minutes so you should only plug it in once you're ready to set it up. ... show more

    • Ridiculously Difficult To Pair
If it wasn't for "A. Atta"-s review (Apr 2020) I would have returned this switch. Following the directions and downloaded user guide were of zero value. Spent almost 4 hours trying to get this switch paired. Then Atta's review helped whereby I went with the Quick Pairing method described therein. Before then I was getting non-stop "can't connect" or "wrong password" messages. Infuriating. Well now it seems to work. More testing later today. Still might return it. "3 stars" because it's an average between "ease of install" (1 star) and "ease of use once installed" (5 stars). But, as I noted, ease of use might just fall flat later today. 3 stars.     • Great device if correct QR code enclosed
Connecting to my internet was IMPOSSIBLE at first. I used the QR code card in the box. The app would scan and then TRY to connect but always timed out. I had it 2 ft from my router, tried to connect at 2.4ghz even tried quick connect option and same thing. Tried the app on 3 phones with same results. *****UPDATE***** Finally got it paired. Found that there was an update to the Ewelink app which I installed. I also found that if you wait to plug in the device just before your at the point of pairing and use the "Quick pairing" option it connected quickly. I was never able to get the QR scanning option to pair. Later i found that the QR ID was off by one digit compared to what the app ID showed for the device. I dont know if the wrong QR code was placed in the box at the factory or possibly this was a return from someone who purchased multiple devices and inserted the wrong QR code. Ordered a second device and paired within seconds with the enclosed QR code. Bottom line once its paired works fantastic! I changed from one star to four . ... show more

I purchased this to allow me to schedule turning on/off an LED light strip that I have plugged into the USB port on my TV. It's small enough that it fits in the back of the TV where I need it to power the lights. Like many have noted I had an issue paring the device with the eWeLink App. I couldn't for the life of me find the QR code for the device. Turns out it was on a very small piece of paper, face down, at the bottom of the box. I literally dismantled the box before it fell out. Once I had that it paired fine and I have the light scheduled to turn on and off. The app is OK and does what I need it to do. ... show more

    • Didn't work with a small USB water pump.
I wanted this to use as a timer for a small pump that ran a drip irrigation for 6 house plants. The switch would turn on but not power the little pump. If I pulled the USB then plugged it back in when the switch was on, it would work. Strange. It would work fine when used for a cell phone charger but not for the pump. I ended up using a Sonoff wall plug switch and a USB adapter instead. ... show more
