  • Very quiet directed stream of air
I have been looking for a decent squirrel cage style window fan for years. Although this is a little on the pricey side, I think it is well worth the investment. 1st) They look to be quite well built. I love that the design of the grill, which is in a uniform rectangle. This makes it possible to cut a block of foam (preferably gray in color ~ which I did) to block the flow of air from the outside air when the fan is not in use by sandwiching into the sides of the unit in front of the grill. 2nd) I like that it was easy to apply a screen with duct tape to the outdoor side of the air intake to keep out insects. 3rd) The fact there is no remote control is a bonus because it's one more thing to loose. 4th) The electronic buttons are intuitively easy to use and it's a big plus that you can use it to exhaust your indoors if you burn the toast. 5th) Even on high the fans are relatively quiet. On the low settings they are nearly inaudible. 6th) I love they are weather resistant, that said I will likely construct a roof out of plexiglass to shield the unit from storms as I intend to have them available for use all year round, although in the heat of Summer I'll forgo the hot humid outdoor air for AC. 7th) They are offered in a black color which has two advantages. First they will show little in the way of particle dirt accumulation compared to the typical white window fans which look like they need cleaning after one week use. Second, they essentially trap light which is great for the bedroom when you do not want to be disturbed by sunlight in the early morning hours. 8th) The air pattern generated by the fan is more of a directed narrow beam that excites the air thereby moving the air in the room around in contrast to the typical prop style fan which leaves stagnate zones within the living space. Cons? Maybe slightly less CFM per dollar to other window fans. That said, I am convinced that the CFM generated by this fan has greater efficiency in the way that it creates a beam of air that excites or moves around the air in the room to a greater scale. I purchased 2 because I love the design and function of the unit. Recommended. ... show more

  • Let's minimal light into room.
I work night shift and when my AC went out I needed a fan to get me through that would also help me keep my room dark. This did the trick. It moves a lot of cool air around the room, it is nice and quiet, and easy to install.

  • It works
I will start with the bad about this fan. There are foam inserts to block off the window area that you will not be using. You do have to finagle those inserts in a way to have adequate coverage in the window gaps. There are no instructions on how to use these foam inserts. Also, your screen needs to be open depending on the gap that you have between your screen and your window. Mine is about a 3 inch gap and that’s not enough clearance to leave the screen closed. So the concern for bugs to enter at will is there, though it hasn’t happened as of yet. There is no duel function on this fan, it cannot blow air in and exhaust simultaneously. The good: It’s small. I have a small window that does not open too far. So the slimline is appreciated so that I can actually have a fan in my window. The exhaust is adequate. I use this fan in my home office as an exhaust fan. My Home office is a small room, and the fan works adequately in exhausting smoke. There doesn’t seem to be much residual smell of cigarette smoke left behind at the end of my shift. The noise level of the fan is not too overwhelming. Doesn’t it interrupt or distract me from my work. I could see it being a nice white noise machine if someone is looking for that. I have used this fan for about 80 hours and so far am satisfied with this purchase. ... show more

  • WORLD of differerence!
My apartment for grad school has a really tiny, odd shaped kitchen. Despite the window, there was no air circulation. The gas range would heat the room up 10-20 degrees and the smell of whatever I cooked would linger for DAYS (and leak into the main room and even the hallway). I love cooking, but I found myself turning to microwave meals or takeout to avoid having to use the kitchen. Someone suggested getting an exhaust fan and I chose this one, partly because I liked the look of it. Let me tell you, the difference is unbelievable. The kitchen now stays cool and the fan whisks the smell of food right out! Not sure how it would work in a larger space, but it serves my purpose perfectly. It also took all of three minutes to install by myself. Could not be happier! ... show more

  • Needs a Hand Hold & Blocks Don’t Interlock
I bought this to replace a small Bionaire 3 fan unit. This is chunkier and heavier. Air flow is about the same, and it’s quieter than the rotary fans. It rests OK on the window sill and doesn’t interfere with my screen. The low profile is good for my window that has a view of a birdfeeder. The controls are easy to use push buttons. If the power goes off, even for a few seconds, the fan re-sets to off and intake. The fan doesn’t have a handle or any hand holds on the top or sides; there are projections on each side of the front that can be grasped. I need to reach over a piece of furniture to get at the window, and the fan is awkward to move. [The Bionaire was easier to place in the window.] This unit doesn’t have the traditional blades, so when switching from intake to exhaust, the fan needs to maneuver the internal set-up instead of reversing direction. Haven’t had it long enough to find out if this shortens its life span. It comes with several, different width, foam blocks that one is supposed to use to fill in the open sections of the window on either side of the unit. These blocks do not interlock & are a pain to try to use. If I wanted to fill in the gaps, I would cut a piece of wood, Plexiglas, cardboard, or plastic board to the size I need. Or, shove a pillow in the gap. Came well packaged with cardboard for recycling instead of Styrofoam. I am using it as an exhaust fan in conjunction with a larger fan, in another window, that is set on intake. Other configurations may not work as well. Tried to move this from my double track window to a single track on the porch and was unhappy to discover that it will not balance in the single track. ... show more
