  • Great Knife
I got the starter gift set for Christmas. It came with a cook’s knife but not a Chef’s knife. I liked the starter set so much I wanted to invest in the Chef’s knife. These are great knives. My husband gets irritated because you have to hand wash them but we love the functionality! They are made in the USA. Side note— if you put them in the dishwasher the handle will discolor because it is made of aluminum. The knife will still function the handle will just discolor. ... show more

  • First-Class Knife
For the money, this is probably the best knife I have used. It is very sharp, holds an edge well, and its light-weight and balance make for great flexibility. "Light-weight" does not mean light or low quality; it simply means the knife is much less heavy than high-quality (and much higher priced) knives from Wusthof, Zwilling, etc. As a result, cutting large quantities is far less fatiguing. As other reviewers have noted, the blade is thin, so this is probably not the knife to use to cut up a large pumpkin or rutabaga. However, it is fantastic with other vegetables and meats. At first, I thought the aluminum handle would result in a slippery grip. However, the grooved surface provides an extremely slip-resistant and firm grip. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Good Enough for Every Day Cooking
I am a professional cook and I own two of these knives, along with some other Rada knives. I was given my first as a gift and bought another. I use one of them daily at work and I am not disappointed. There are two things that really matter when choosing a chef's knife: if it can hold an edge and if you like it. That's it. All knives can be sharpened, and all knives will dull - it's just a matter of how long they will stay sharp. I sharpen mine every two weeks, but it could really go another before it truly needs it. And if you're going to be looking at it every day and be the one using it, it should feel good in your hand and it might as well be pretty, eh? I love the aluminum handles on these. This knife does have a pretty thin blade and some rough edges, so if you're not developing calluses from using it every day or don't hold it right, it'll be a little uncomfortable. But it is really light and not having a bolster/finger guard makes it really easy to sharpen on any run-of-the-mill electric or wheel sharpener. The tip of the knife isn't the pointiest and can be tricky to get super sharp, though. Having two of these knives I can say there are some inconsistencies in their manufacturing; one is perfectly balanced and one has a little heavier blade. I attribute the difference to different steel in the blade, but the difference is pretty negligible. I've gotten a little but of discoloration on the lighter one, but still nothing worth worrying about. The reason for the 5-star rating though: the price. For 12 or 13 bucks I'd throw it at a dart board! Not really, but you don't have to worry too much about dropping it on the tip or putting a ding in it. If you like it and it's this quality for this price, then why bother with top of the line knives? I've used Mercer, Global, and Shun knives, and because I don't have thousands of dollars to throw around, I'll take the sleek and cheap Rada, thanks. Oh yeah, and if you put any knife in the dishwasher you can expect to ruin it. ... show more

  • High Quality Great Price
The most important aspect of a knife for a non professional is does it cut and does it clean properly. I can confirm sharp blade and cleans easily. They have figured out how to optimize the blade for feel and sharpness. It is a light, so if you want a heavy "manly knife" its not it. but if you want a knife that will cut meat and veggies and can be used everyday. this is a great choice. Better on Veggies than a Rib Roast I also bought a Victorinox at the same time. The Victoronix is heavier and cuts meat a little better. From a value standpoint - would be near impossible to beat the Rada. My recommendation is to buy both. Use the Rada on Veggies Fish and Boneless Chicken. Use the Victoronix on Whole Chicken, Pork and Beef ... show more
