Description

The PRS SE Swamp Ash Special is a unique offering in the growing PRS SE Series. With a swamp ash body and 22-fret maple neck with maple fretboard, the SE Swamp Ash Special is a fresh face and versatile voice. The 85/15 “S” pickups flank a PRS-Designed AS-01 Single Coil “S” pickup in the middle position. The AS-01 Single Coil features both alnico and steel (hence the name), which adds mass to the pickups helping to create a powerful sound. Paired with a push-pull tone control and 3-way pickup switch, this pickup/electronics package gives players an array of sounds to enjoy, and the addition of PRS’s patented tremolo adds a touch more versatility. The overall tone of the PRS SE Swamp Ash Special offers tight low end, bright but mellow high-end, and a welcome twangy tone that can reach “hot country,” blues, and even jazz territory.

  • Looks as good as it plays
this is my first purchase of an electric PRS (expensive or cheap) and I am extremely happy with it!! It feels great on the hands, and right out of the bag made some really impressive tones. I did pull the humbuckers up slightly on the high strings, but that was the only adjustment needed. This guitar has really had me playing much more electric, which is what I was hoping for! if I did have to nitpick, I would say that it could’ve used a little bit more care on the fret bars. There are a few rough edges, which I filed off. ... show more

  • Attractive guitar, but lacks in playability out of the box.
Out of the box this PRS Swamp ash guitar was a disappointment. It was not set up even close to where a delivered guitar should be for optimum playability. The action was very high and the truss rod required adjusting since there was a “bow” in the neck. After completely setting up the guitar myself (which required truss rod adjustment, replacing the tuning machines with locking tuners, lowering the action, setting intonation, replacing the strings), I was able to make the guitar much easier to play. I plugged the guitar into an amp and I have to say the tone was better than I expected. The coil tap “pull switch” is a great feature and gives you a nice variety of tones. I was also surprised how well the guitar stayed in tune after using the tremelo bar, however, the locking machines I installed helped somewhat. Overall, it is a nice guitar for the price, but, if you purchase one, you’ll need to have had experience setting up guitars or you will never be happy with it. ... show more

  • Swamp ash PRS
I love the tones of the swamp ash PRS! That being said the quality control on SE's is not perfect for a brand new guitar. Upon inspection I noticed some fine scratches in the clear coat and the action was quite high compared to my CE model.

  • Best Guitar I own!!!!
I love this guitar. I got it from a different seller because I was able to see the actual guitar I was buying, by serial number, and therefore, got the grain pattern I liked the best from available stock. I am surprised PRS created this budget-friendly guitar as it has greater functionality than many PRS higher-end models. The main feature that I like is the push-pull tone knob that allows you select 6 different pickup configurations. It came well setup and plays very "smoothly" across the neck. I think I sound better with it than I do on other guitars I own. The green swamp ash body is impeccably finished and the whole thing is nothing short of gorgeous. They also seem to have shielded the control cavity based on a review I watched -- the guitar is dead quiet, with no buzz or electronic interference with the signal. Overall, I love this and while I was once a stratocaster copy enthusiast, I am now converted to this model of PRS's lineup. I wish I could justify also buying the amber version of this guitar as I like the finish on it as much, or even more than the finish on this green model. I also liked the fact that it came with a 52 point inspection signed by whoever inspected it. Overall, a great instrument....I don't think I'll need another guitar given how versatile, easy to play, and "right fitting" this instrument feels!! Nice job PRS!!! ... show more
