I am impressed with this reel. I bought the 500 model for ice fishing later this year. Have a Shakespeare rod and reel but the reel went defective. Less hassle to get a new reel than deal with returning the rig. 6 ball bearings on the 500 model makes for a very smooth retrieve. Shakespeare only has 1 ball bearing. Interesting and well designed mechanism to allow the handle to fold for storage. Way better than Shakespeare's folding handle. 500 model has more drag force than comparable Shakespeare. Extra points for exploded diagram with part number list and spare drag washers. Definitely feels like a huge upgrade. Price was reasonable too. Absolutely love these reels, out of the box they are super smooth and you can tell they are extremely durable, the quick fold in the handle is perfect for quick storing and much better then unscrewing the handle every time! I’m very fond of both colors and the craftsmanship that went into the paint and the laser Etching! And the extended stem Will be a perfect length to not have to take off my glove every time I need to reel up a fish, overall I am super impressed with this reel and will be buying more soon!! ... show more

UPDATE: 01/24/2020 The reels did arrive and guess what... 1 of the 2 reels that they sent has the same grinding sound I was speaking about on my previous review... Good thing they sent 2 because I like I said, 50/50 chance you'll get a good one. I guess I'll review these up on Mille Lacs this weekend and provide further feedback on how good they perform but the quality control definitely is not there. 1 extra star for the fast replacements to make it in time for my trip though. I will test it and see how well they perform for set lines and jigging. Hopefully catch some fish to actually test the reels. Previous review: 1 of the 2 reels I ordered was defective. Horrible time since it’ll most likely not make it to me by tomorrow before I go on my trip this weekend. Reel makes a grinding noise while he other one does not. We’ll see how good their customer service is. Now they’re sending me 2 replacements instead of just 1. I guess it’ll give me a 50/50 chance of one being good. If it does make it before my trip maybe I’ll update my review on these reels as I was going up to Mille Lacs this weekend and was hoping to review these reels. If it doesn’t make it then I may just return both and go with a different company. ... show more

I use mostly Abu Garcia Ice max reels. I decided to give this one a shot. I’m not overly impressed with the build quality. The rotor movement isn’t as smooth as the ice max and the materials just seem cheap. However It does seem to have a smoother drag than the ice max. I guess I’ll find out how well it holds up over time. So far I probably wouldn’t buy another one. Edit: after an entire winter of using this reel I have to say I really do like it. I shouldn’t have rated it before I used it for a whole season. I changed my rating to five stars from two. It has an excellent drag probably my favorite part about it. ... show more

So I just got home from a fishing trip up in Northern Minnesota and I was really hoping that I would have had the opportunity to take this reel with me, but it didn't arrive in time. So when I got back from the trip today I had to open the package immediately. Which means I haven't had the time to test it out yet but I will give you my opinion of it just having it in my hand. For starters the reel was only $27.99 which is the best price point for a quality reel so I am curious to see how it performs. Upon opening the box I noticed that the handle folds in to the reel which for rod storage it is going to work exceptional. Drag system seems to be pretty smooth but I haven't had it out in the cold either. It's a little noisier of a reel but again for $27.99 you can't really compare it to a substantially more expensive reel. All in all I'm very p[leased with the purchase thus far. The season has started quite early so I will be putting this reel through the ringer in the coming weeks and will give you an honest review. ... show more

My first initial reaction while unboxing this reel was a good one! First off, i enjoy the collapsing handle that makes it easy to transport in a rifle case/rod case. Secondly, as I started to play around with it, you can really tell that they spent a lot of time perfecting this drag as it is smooth yet powerful. I also think that the way they protect the inside of the reel, so that snow cannot get in, is an absolute game changer as many serious ice anglers fish through some of the craziest snow storms. As far as weight, this reel compares to many high end reels and it is featherlight. I really enjoy how the spool isn’t narrow like other ice reels, making it an all purpose reel to put any type of line on. From 8 lb braid, to 2 lb mono, this spool can take it all! Not to just mention the performance, but this reel is also appealing to any ice fisherman as it comes with a sleek all black design, matching almost all rods on the market. All in all, I give a thumbs up to the folks at Piscifun, they hit this one out of the ball park! I’ll be ordering more soon ... show more

I purchased this reel to use on a short rod for Crappie and Trout fishing from docks, shore, etc. I like the feel and size, and it works for what I wanted, but the spool rubs ever so slightly along one side of the rotor -- just enough that that sounds and the slight 'catch' annoys me. I tried adjusting and I have not been able to correct the issue. It has not really impacted the performance for what I am using it for, but it is a small flow in the unit.
