This is my first ice auger, and yesterday my first time ice fishing, so I don't have a basis to compare to other products, but I will say this worked better and easier than I expected. We had perhaps 6" of solid, clear, hard ice, and this chewed through it almost effortlessly, made a nice clean hole, and pulled the shavings up out of the hole while you turn it, so you can kick them aside and don't have to fish them out of the hole. The blades RIP through ice. Used my 6” auger today on ice that was about 13-14” and it cut right through. The black top piece that you hold while using it keeps falling off though, and the instructions didn’t offer a solution on how to resolve that. You definitely need it because you’re gently pushing down while turning the auger. I might just have to super glue it on, because otherwise it’ll blow away or get lost on my next ice fishing trip. Bummed about that but otherwise it’s a great auger. The blade cover is a lot nicer than the one on my old auger. ... show more

This manual auger is light, strong, and does the job. Gets through 6” of ice is around 12-15 turns. Great value for the money.

    • 4th winter, still an ice drilling champion.
Just wanted to update this review. Year 4, with a bit of sharpening I'm still thrilled with this Auger! This is an excellent hand Auger. It splits to 1/2 size for storage in the warm months and easily assembles for winter use. I can cut holes in less than a minute by hand and really don't feel the need to ever adapt this to use with a drill. It cuts easily with the included blades (which can be sharpened or replaced as needed) and has held up extremely well through last season, and now for the first cuts of this season. I do recommend this to anyone who asks, and personally prefer this over gas powered augers. These are quiet, still quite fast, lighter, and don't risk spilling chemicals into our waterways. I plan to do a lot of fishing this year through the ice, thanks to this trusty Auger. The 8" diameter is great for fishing pike through the ice as well. ... show more
