  • Outperforms other "high-end" names and Models.
Style Name: Ice Cube 3 (3 Person Non-insulated)
This product is well designed (and has even been improved over the years.) I've loaded and unloaded and used it many times, used it in sub-zero temperatures, and even transported on a public bus (long story). It is relatively compact, relatively light, easy to carry, durable, and easy to use. Size: Excellent to pack on sled or carry on back. Relatively lightweight for what you get. I am over 6'2 and have no trouble standing up and using the shelter with 1-2 other people sitting on chairs, buckets, or sleds. Warmth: Its easy to regulate both light and air-flow. Windows can be sealed-off, let light in, or peeled back partway or altogether. I usually keep them closed, orient the shelter so the single door is downwind, and leave the door ajar or velcroed back on the provided tab if I want air flow. End-to-End vents are available higher up if sealing yourself tight. I regularly use a single Mr Heater and am able to bring and keep the shelter warm and comfortable in both high winds and very low temperatures. Easy of use: The provided stakes are excellent. Some other brands are way too small/weak to penetrate. These go nice and quick in all types of ice. In calm conditions, it is up in less than a minute. It can also be pre-staked in one corner and then, even in high winds, be set up in a couple of minutes. (I use only the windward two sides for guy lines if needed, but it holds its shape so well that it usually takes at least 15mph winds to even need that). Durability: Fabric is tough, not insulated, but certainly not much penetration of wind occurs. No complaints there and I can't imagine needing more thickness. Which is actually nice, since if I know I am going a week or more between trips I will take and set it up to dry (condensation or snow or water is inevitable). I liked it so much that when I knew I needed to expand my "fleet" I bought this model again. I already found the setup and staking and snow skirt much cleaner than other shelters of other brands. There is no lift or separation, it sits tight. And to my surprise, the newer one had a modified staking system that makes the grommet separate from the skit, providing an option to stake externally or internally, but still not so far removed that the tent could lift off the ground or skirting (or problem on some other models). And the best part is, with the price (around $170, shipping included) I was able to get BOTH of my shelters for less than one of many "equivalent" 3-person on-the-market shelters. ... show more

  • not bad for the money
Style Name: Ice Cube 3 (3 Person Non-insulated)
This is not insulated and the inside get frosty. But for the money, it get you out of the wind turning a miserable day on the ice (still better then a good day in the office) to a fun , productive day . fairly easy to put up. The Ice screws are a little cheap, but work, just use care. good for one or two adults . ... show more

  • Pack the windows separate once you open it up for the first time
Style Name: Ice Cube 2 (2 Person Non-insulated)
So this is my first year with a hub and the price point is the reason I bought this one. I think I bought it on sale for 150. It comes with ice anchors and the windows are detachable. The only issue I have is that packing it up cold, the windows stay pretty stiff and I had one window get a rip in it because of it. But i believe that if you would just pack the windows separate this hub is the best bang for your buck and great for someone who wants to get out of the cold and the wind. Went out twice already and the one day it was -10 F and was able to stay nice and warm all day with the little buddy heater. ... show more

  • 5 stars even compared with name brands
Style Name: Ice Cube 3 (3 Person Non-insulated)
Having been on the fence about buying a hub due to their typically expensive price range, I opted for the Thunderbay Ice Cube since it had high ratings and a low price tag. I have used it almost 10 times now after just getting it a month ago. Pros: - The set up is super easy, - take down is super easy (read the short little how-to paper that comes with for some tips/tricks) - It comes with 8 ice anchors (4 for each corner grommet and 4 for the guy lines off each hub). I have never needed more than a total of 4 anchors but I also haven't had a crazy windy day yet on the ice. - The backpack straps work pretty darn well for it being a shanty and not a backpack! - It blacks out really well for sight fishing. -Velcro windows for more ventilation - one of the bigger sized pop up hubs without getting a double wide or a 5 sided Cons: -only one door (hasn't been much of an issue at all for me though) - no insulated version available -With the heater cranked all the way up when it was 0 degrees outside, there was some condensation build up that dripped on the edges. - one of the zippers broke (during the 0 degree weather so i wasn't surprised the metal became brittle) but a tied piece of paracord lead to a quick fix Overall, I give this pop up a solid 5 stars. Even with the cons that I have listed above, I feel this shelter meets everything it claims to be. Having used a few other hub shelters, this one seems to be just as good if not better than some of the name brands but it came at a fraction of the price. For being over 100$ less than the next comparable hub of its size, I definitely got my money's worth even if it only has 1 door. I would definitely recommend to friends and family (and I already have :P ) ... show more

  • Stake it!
Style Name: Ice Cube 3 (3 Person Non-insulated)
I love this tent! However, the included instructions would have led to its destruction if I hadn't stopped and watched a youtube video. It says to lay it flat, hubs down, and pull up on the top. What they don't mention is that the way it's folded, with the hubs down, the top is folded up in between two sides. What's on top are the other two sides. It takes a fair amount of "untangling" for lack of a better word. And make sure that you use all eight of the included stakes because it doesn't take much wind to pop the hub back into the tent, and when it happens, it happens suddenly and with force. Enough to really hurt but probably not enough to cause any serious injury. I had my microphone set up against the opposite wall the first time it happened to me and was lucky I hadn't been facing the other way as it would have surely sent it flying and probably would have damaged both the mic and the tent. (Would have been my fault.) Just saying, stake it or beware. ... show more
