Description

The Cressi Shock Cord is a must have for spear fisherman. This invaluable cord can save you the frustration of losing your catch, your shaft, or breaking your line. One end attaches to your gun and the other to your line. The concept is that tension is dampened, more so than just attaching your line directly to the gun. This is advantageous when your catch pulls on the line; instead of the shaft tearing out of your catch, the shock cord offers less resistance on the line. Don t go spearfishing without a shock cord, or you might lose your catch!The Shock Cord are available in 3 designs: Plain, with Snap and with Pigtail Swivel. The Pigtail Swivel and the Snap allow you to unclip the line to either change spear or to thread a fish off the mono. After hit a fish it’s easier to push it through the head, unclip the mono and push it out. The products are made in Asia under the Quality Specification of Cressi, brand pioneer on Spearfishing. The product has a limited warranty of 24 months.

    • Good product, really terrible packaging
My 4 star rating is based on the gun itself, but because my experience with the packaging of this product doesn't seem to be unique, I think it's worth mentioning. The gun was shipped in a clear plastic bag inside of a long squished cardboard box. There was no padding - no bubble wrap, no air filled bags, no packing paper....just the gun in a bag bouncing around inside a box with a few pieces of tape on either end to hold it inside. It's not much of a surprise that the gun had scratches on it, or that the mini CD it came with was broken. Other than the scratch on the aluminum barrel the gun looked ok, but I was left feeling like maybe I should have just ordered a used gun instead. Onto the gun itself....I ordered the 100cm gun - it's a great looking speargun and while it's at the cheap end of the speargun price range, it doesn't look like a cheap scuba gun. The barrel is a nice matte black and the grip is comfortable. The band it comes with is REALLY tough to load the first time. You should always load the gun underwater though - doing it on land is very dangerous. If you're struggling with loading it, just do a search on speargun loading techniques and you'll find lots of videos that will show you how to do it without hurting yourself. You should never trust the safety on any speargun, because it only prevents you from pulling the trigger; if the gun gets knocked or randomly discharges, the spear is still going to shoot even with your safety on. That said, it would still be nice if the safety on this gun worked better than it does. Once you've taken the safety off, if you try to put it back on it's pretty tough to do and seems to get stuck halfway. Maybe it will loosen up with more use. Reloading the spear is easy and the line is simple to rig after each shot. If you miss and need to reload, you can do it really quickly once you get the hang of it. This gun has a massive amount of power for a single band gun - I've been hunting mostly with Hawaiian slings and a pole spear and the difference in the velocity the spear travels at is amazing. I've been using the gun on the first notch on the spear and can't see myself needing the extra power of the second notch unless I was going after much bigger fish than I usually see on the reef in South Florida. The gun is accurate and from about 10 feet the spear penetrates fish like they aren't even there. A snapper ended up halfway up the line today after the spear passed all the way through it and kept on going. After that shot though as I was reloading I noticed that the loop of line on the spear had come undone and the spear was ready to come off; the line had been pulled completely out of the crimper and I had to head back to shore to fix it. This shouldn't happen after less than a dozen shots with the gun - if I had shot something bigger like a mackerel or cobia, there's a good chance the spear shaft would be long gone along with the fish. Check the crimps on the line and if they don't look very tight, you might want to tighten them. I'm 6' tall and the 100cm gun is just about the perfect size for me and the sort of fish I'm going after. All in all it's a good gun at a great price. It's nicely balanced and neutral in the water when loaded. Edit: I've owned the gun for almost two months now. I set the band on the second notch last week and when I fired the line came out of the crimp attaching the line to the gun. Cressi definitely needs to work on crimping the line better -- both crimps should not fail so soon after getting a gun.     • User Modification Required, the bolt adds an additional 5 inches
Says 30 inch but the bolt sticks out an extra half foot. Very accurate. I'm able to shoot sheepshead at the end of my visibility and spear iguanas from from 15 yards out (they are invasive in the keys). The line is tied is though the back of the bolt, not the tip which leads to problems mentioned below. It has a space for an extra band, and the barrel seems to take the force without bending. Sadly, for the price you pay, Cressi cut some pretty cheap corners. Throw away the line it comes with. It doesn't have a rubber band on the end, so it will probably snap the first time you miss any ways. The crimps they used to hold the line around the bolt got caught consistantly on the end of my barrel and ended up putting a huge slice in one of my bands. Tying the line led to the knot getting caught. I ended up just tying the knot on the out side of the barrel. No padding on the butt, at the end of a week of intense spearfishing my center chest was very bruised from constantly pushing the hard plastic against my middle ribs. ... show more

Works great. Hard to pull back, especially if you are not strong. Otherwise, no problems. Does what it should. I have speared a number of fish with it. I would have speared more if I didn't live far from waters which are good for using it.

    • Quality Issues - Can be addressed by user, but I expected better quality...
Based on many 5-Star reviews of this product, I ordered it without hesitation. Received the product in new condition and was impressed by the build quality and overall feel. Ultimately, I'm giving this spear gun 3-stars based on several series quality issues which Cressi need to address: 1) On first use I found the gun safety and loading mechanism jammed very easily. Would line up a shot, press the trigger, then nothing would happen. Would wiggle the safety a bit and the spear would launch without warning! Luckily there were no other divers in the water with me at the time. 2) After managing to fire the gun around a dozen times, the mono-filament line crimp parted where its attached to the gun. This resulted in the spear launching into 20m of water and required a SCUBA dive in order to retrieve it (sorry, my free-diving skills aren't *that* great). 3) After re-attaching the spear to the gun and checking the crimps on the spear end (looked fine), fired it a few more times. Spear then disconnected from the mono-filament (this time at the spear end). Luckily, this happened in shallow water. 4) Upon reconnecting the spear to the mono-filament, discovered that many of the loading, jamming, and firing issues were being caused by the crimp/mono-filament setup interfering with the trigger mechanism. Adjusted the placement of the knot holding the spear to the mono-filament and all the previous issues of loading, firing, and jamming went away. Were it not for the jamming and disconnecting problems, this would be a fine gun. Even with all the issues, I managed to spear a massive grouper and we had a wonderful BBQ dinner. Problems can be fixed by the end-user, but this shouldn't be a necessity. Given the price and the safety issues involved with these sorts of malfunctions, the manufacturer should address these problems ASAP. ... show more
