Unfortunately this is not an original pickle. My father rolled the sled over and broke my original so I bought this one as a replacement. The original had rubber rings to secure the reel to the rod handle that was compromised of two foam pads. It feels like heaven in your hand. It also allowed you to position the reel so that you could line it up perfectly with the eyelets and compensate for the weight of the reel. Making it so the flat rod tip was always horizontal. Well some people complained about having to put the rings on so now this model has a traditional plastic reel seat that feels awkward and has less sensitivity in your hand. Also the position of the reel seat does not line up with the eyelets and the weight of the reel twists the rod I. Your hand so everything feels and is cockeyed in your hand. They also added a line keeper above the spool that gives one more spot for it to build up on in cold wind that impedes the drop rate of the jig. I wasn’t mad at my father because accident happen but after receiving the replacement I am very disappointed that a rod that felt like heaven in my hand, someone tried “improving” it basically ruined a great thing. I ice fish at least twice a week. I love this rod and reel. For panfish this beats a spinning reel in every way. The line guard on the reel is great, I have yet to get a birds nest. Completely eliminated line twist. Also the drag isnt as bad as people say. Yes, its silent, but works well enough. I've had to use it on a few 14 + inch bass on 2 lb test line and it was fine. My only advice is not to set this rod down on the ice. Like any reel, if it gets wet it will freeze up and be a pain. I'll honestly probably buy another just so I can have a different jig on it, or so my wife can use it. ... show more

Husband was super excited for the rod. Was let down a bit because the rod was twisted and the eyelits were not in line with the rod itself. It works ok for ice fishing but at the price, I would think the pole would be put together correctly.

Got some time in on this setup and I'm impressed. It has extremely high sensitivity and enough flex to pull in the giants. The reel spooled up 50 yards of 6lb fluoro with room to spare. With having a reel seat instead of the rubber O rings it makes for a much less hassle getting setup. It handles everything from micro jigs to larger lures and spoons. The only drawback I've found with it is rather easy to overcome, that being the drag is silent, no clicks to signify line being pulled or stripped. But it does have a slight feel in the reel when a fish pulls line. Overall bottom line: I would absolutely recommend this combo. ... show more

Well all I can say It hold up to my 15"+ bass with the drag just about max to it's titaness to pull him through the ice then after that I gone speck fishing with the soft tip on it was able to show even the little guy grabbing on to the wax warmer

This rod and reel combo is the best I have for pan fish. The tip is very sensitive so it’s easy to detect those light bites. Plus it’s got enough back bone to bring in bigger fish. The only downside is the reel needs to be adjusted to the fall of your bait/lure or it will birds nest on you. With a little patience and tweaking it is easy to figure out. I ordered the radioactive pickle combo with the tickle stick. There is audible scraping sound coming from reel on every rotation. It seems the tolerances may be off. This is out of the box before line has even been put on it.
