Frequently asked questions

The Orion Motor Tech 5-in-1 Tool Set is versatile and compatible with many makes and models of cars and light trucks. It's designed for tasks on many domestic and imported front wheel drive vehicles, making it a handy kit for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts. However, it's always recommended to check specific vehicle compatibility due to variations in suspension designs.

Primarily, the Orion Motor Tech 5-in-1 Tool Set is designed for front end service tasks, including ball joint separation, Pitman arm removal, and working with tie rod ends. While some components of the set might be applicable for certain rear suspension tasks, it's mainly intended for front suspension work. For rear-specific suspension tasks, specialized tools might be necessary.

To maintain the OMT 5-in-1 Tool Set in good condition, regular cleaning after use to remove any dirt or grease is recommended. Also, applying a light coat of oil to metal parts can prevent rust and corrosion. Store the tool set in a dry place to avoid moisture buildup, which can further help in preserving the quality and performance of the tools.

Orion Motor Tech's 5-in-1 Tool Set is designed to be durable and reliable for both professional mechanics and DIY users. While it is priced more affordably compared to some high-end professional brands, it offers a robust build quality and functionality suitable for a wide range of front end service tasks. Users have found it to perform well for standard maintenance and repairs, though heavy-duty or industrial applications might require higher-grade tool options.

This product garners positive reviews for its effectiveness and quality, particularly praised for being a solid starter kit for automotive front-end work. Users have successfully used it for tough tasks, such as removing a steering stabilizer from a Jeep XJ, replacing a Pittman and idler arm, and for general garage use. While the kit is applauded for its quality and the selection of tools suitable for most jobs, some users note limitations like insufficient sizing for specific vehicle models such as the 2011 Kia Sportage lower control arm ball joint and concerns about durability in a few instances.

EDIT-updated from 2 star to 5 star I reached out to OMT directly about the broken tools and they responded quickly. They shipped out a replacement with a lead time "around 3-7 business days". It arrived the very next day. I was finally able to pull the pitman arm after 2 weeks of wrestling with it. It was rusted in place but these tools broke it free. I'm leaving my original review below for reference. I'm not sure if was user error or faulty tools, but OMT came through in the end. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Four of the five tools broke while using them. The 5th tool (separator) only survived because it wouldn't fit around any of the ball joints on my 1992 Toyota Century. The large claw puller was able to move the pitman arm down a few mm before cracking. I used an obscene amount of silicone grease on the threads. I didn't use an impact wrench. The joints have been sprayed with PB Blaster several times daily for about a week. I did everything I could to give these tools a fighting chance and they still broke. The large adjustable puller bent out of alignment on the first try. The arms are no longer even and do not sit flat making it useless. The bolt on the smallest puller sheared when I used a tube as a breaker extension. I had to use a hacksaw to cut it free. The large puller was the perfect size for the pitman arm. I went super slow with the tube extension, tightening a half turn or so before backing off, hosing the steering column down with penetrating fluid, and then tightening it again. Using this process, it moved a few mm before the claw snapped. I tried my luck separating the ball joint side of the pitman arm with the small puller. Using only a wrench (no extension) the claws began to bend backwards. I expected a little bit of a hassle when using these. Even one broken tool would've been understandable, but four? The metal used is of terrible quality. I do not recommend. ... show more

  • Clear instructions included
Color: silver
This front end service tool kit is a decent value for the price. The packaging is totally on point and it comes with a nice case. The castings are a bit rough with some sharp edges, but should do the job nicely. Includes user manual with clear instructions.

  • Pullers
Color: silver
I have used two of the group and they work good, not the best finish but for the price very functional. I used them on a Defender 90 from the UK on original ball joints (30 years old) worked well.

  • The right way too use tools
Color: silver
These tools at first glance an feel robust do they work yes when used in the proper manner there design too pop out the ball joint or tie rod if you put pressure on the tool an it doesn’t pop out the ball joint donot continue too over tighten tool it has limits like all tools too much force it’s gonna break all tools will do this no how much force too put on that tool before you realize something is still attach or it is frozen in the socket or the sway bar link it is stopping the arm from popping out you have too loosen control arm too frame bolts for the arm to move mark the the bolts with paint pen so you can put it back exactly how you removed it some control arms the have bushings everything must be loose before you tighten the control arm an ball joint I call a full relaxed position the moment you tighten the arms the bushings will act like coil spring an you will bounce down the road like a bunny no I’m not joking . ... show more

  • Total junk..
Color: silver
I purchased this set seeing it had a LOT of good reviews.. Maybe all the folks using it are weekend warriors that use the tool once and the tie rod end just pops off.. I had a tie rod end that was really stuck, I soaked everything in PB Blaster and used some heat on it.. Still nothing.. So In purchased this kit. Came on time as Amazon usually does.. Set was undamaged when I opened it.. So far so good. Put the puller on the tie rod end and started to apply a little pressure.. Nothing crazy.. I heard a pop and thought I had broken it free.. Nope.. Tool Broke.. So I tried on of the other pullers.. The puller metal is so soft it deformed. If you have a little easy job this might work for you. I hate cheap tools and always regret it when I buy inferior products.. I just ordered a much better set.. ... show more
