I bought a different brand of motion sprayer several years ago because these ones seemed too expensive (I think it was Havahart brand). Those ones gave out in a year and were not effective at keeping deer and chickens off my plants, and then my dog killed them all so I didn't think to try again until this year. This year, I tried the Orbit brand and am pretty satisfied. I read enough comments about leakage that I decided to put a thin layer of faucet valve grease on each gasket and O-ring (including battery door and electrical connector), and I've had no leaks spring up on me. The [too]many threaded connections do give a lot of opportunities for them to get unscrewed while trying to get everything set up just right. They could have built some kind of detent bumps right into the mold to hold the threads, but it seems like some more of the leak problems may be from mold flashing on the seal surfaces, so hopefully some new molds are in the cards anyhow. There are a lot of installation options with it being built in several modules, though I would like about 1/2" more wire length on the electric valve module to get all the pieces aligned the way I (aesthetically) want them. There is no amount of water pressure that will let you get near this thing without getting a surprisingly unpleasant blast of water. With any realistic water force this has the gumption to bullseye womprats from clear across the yard. You will certainly need to get a feel for the nuanced sensor though. It comes with a software setting enabled that makes it desensitized immediately after it triggers, and then it gradually returns to the set sensitivity. This seems to be something that has lead to most of the other negative reviews. You can turn it off. Simply skim the brief manual. I am using this to keep chickens from roosting in my greenhouse, so I have arranged decorations and plant pots so that the sensor is triggered strongly, close-up, and only for the forbidden area that lets them get to where they shouldn't. Once it's activated, my garden, potted plants, local chicken water dish, and an apple tree all get a little spritz. The mist and moist pavers at the door of the greenhouse also cools it a bit. With this setup (of the guaranteed spray zone, but with a border that varies due to the desensitization feature and then spraying a wide area) it got the chickens to more-or-less keep a standoff distance from the greenhouse door when they are trying to rush me for treats, and then one of them sets it off and they all fall back for just long enough for the sensor to open up again. Oh, and I think I paid only $10 more for this one now than the cheap ones were 12 years ago, so the price has come down overall when you consider inflation. ... show more

I have an outdoor camera which triggers a warning with animals. So I know it works well since I have video of the deer as they leave my yard and head for the neighbors all summer long, several times a week. However, now that’s it’s getting toward freezing weather, I shut it down. Sure enough a couple of deer just checking things out right where the yard defender once was. I recently purchased the Orbit 62100 Yard Enforcer Motion-Activated Sprinkler and have had some time to test it out. This sprinkler offers day and night detection modes and has been a game-changer for my yard. As a dog owner (Luna, a Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd mix), I was looking for a way to protect certain areas of my garden.
