Description

Music lovers rejoice! Those looking for the ultimate in CD playback from an audiophile-grade component will be impressed with a high- precision, multi-bit D/A converter and 128 x oversampling. Others looking for convenience will thrill at the sight of 6-disc capability, 6 repeat modes, 40 track programming—and no worries about interruptions to your music, with the ability to change 5 discs while the last one is still playing. All will marvel at the crystal-clear playback, enhanced by our exclusive VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry), for a smoother sounding audio signal. Just as crucial to your sonic enjoyment is Direct Digital Path, a heavily shielded, high-quality cable that protects the delicate audio signal from noise emitted by the surrounding circuits. Housed in a sturdy chassis graced with a brushed aluminum front panel, the DX-C390 is ready to provide hours of uninterrupted music—for the soundtrack to your life. Key Technology Features: 192 kHz/24bit AD Converters: Costly, extremely powerful digital-to-analog converters , that not only boast a dynamic range of 120 dB, they process information faster and are virtually resistant to clock jitter, to ensure the best possible performance from DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and audio CD.RI (Remote Interactive): With Onkyo’s exclusive RI (Remote Interactive) system capability, you can integrate and operate all compatible components through a single remote control. What’s more, RI capability enables you to simply connect the iPod to your receiver through Onkyo’s RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). Your iPod effectively becomes another Onkyo component from which you can relish a fuller sound that just can’t be experienced through headphones. RI capability will also give you remote operability of your iPod for hands-off control over your digital music. VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry): Conventional D/A conversion methods reduce digital pulse noise at the conversion stage but can’t remove it completely. Previously only found on our high-end components, VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) employs a unique D/A conversion circuit to overcome this problem. Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result — a virtually noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source to bring out even the most subtle of nuances in your music, movie soundtracks and even MP3s. MP3 Playback: This audio format achieves about a 10:1 compression over conventional CD audio. What does this mean? You can store many more songs using the same amount of space. For example, a standard 650MB CD can hold more than 200 songs in MP3 format. Various bitrates allow for higher or lower quality, depending on the desired sound quality of the final recording. • GREAT FOR PLAYING OUR CD COLLECTION
Style: DX-C390
We purchased the Onkyo DXC390 CD changer to play CD's we purchased, mostly, during those years, when everyone said vinyl was a bygone format. Our old Pioneer CD changer was always skipping, no matter which CD we chose to play. To be fair, the Onkyo, also, seems to skip, if the CD is not in the best shape, although I do not fault the Onkyo for this. Particularly, since cleaning the questionable CD's has corrected the problem. CD's do need to be in pretty good shape to avoid skipping. Unfortunately, the CD format is not as fool proof as we were told, when it originally came on the market. Certainly better than Cassette tapes, but no match for vinyl.. Tried and true. With reasonable care vinyl records will last a lifetime, or more. Now that I have revealed my bias for vinyl, I should add that this is a nice CD changer. It has a nice clear sound, although CD's do have a mechanical sound due to their digital nature. That is the nature of the CD format. However, if you have a lot of CD's from those years when CD's were popular this is probably a good choice. I got it due to the good reviews (close to five stars). You should probably use a coaxial cable to connect to your receiver if your receiver or amplifier has a digital port to connect it to. The owner's manual says this will provide the best sound, and I agree. Otherwise, simply use an RCA/ Phono audio connecting cable to make the connection. The player comes with this cable, although it is a pretty spindly cable. I noticed an improvement when I used a Monoprice RCA/Phono audio cable I had on hand. You can get one of these for less than four dollars. I finally ordered the coaxial cable (not included), which is not much more money. To my ears this gave the best sound. The Onkyo DXC390 also, offers an optical/digital port to connect the CD changer. The Onkyo has a number of programmable features I have not even used. I probably won't, either. For those that want these features it is nice they are there. All in all, I don't see how you can go wrong for less than 150.00 dollars. As with any product there are some negative reviews, many of which point to skipping discs. As I mentioned, I encountered the same problem. After cleaning them they now play perfectly, except ones that are very badly damaged. Many CD's have been used in automobile CD players and have probably been miss handled. I know this happened to some of our CD's. The same as with vinyl, CD's need to be cared for properly to stay scratch free, and free of muck. After playing them, store vinyl in the album jacket, or for CD's put them back in their case. Store both vertically. Not a huge choice in this market. The Onkyo seems to rate better than most. I am very happy with it. Love the green sort of bar shaped light on the front, when it is playing. It really improved the sound of our CD collection, when we added it to our surround sound system. I am very happy. ... show more

  • Great Function and Sound
Style: DX-C390
I purchased this Onkyo 6-disc player (DXC390) in April of 2009, and have had no problems or complaints in the 26 months since. The 6-disc changer's playback quality is nothing short of amazing. Although I purchased a souped-up netbook to use as an .mp3 library for my home theater, and have my entire library burned at 320kbs, there is obviously no comparing the compressed quality of .mp3s to the crystal clear definition achieved with this CD player. This is regardless of using Onkyo's "Music Optimizer" or Soundblaster's "Crystallizer" enhancements for restoring .mp3 losses; neither brings the music back. I do not work as a sound-engineer, in a Hollywood studio, nor a symphony hall; but I can say without a doubt that my untrained ear is very pleased by the step-up from a high bitrate .mp3 (with or without optimization) to the real thing on CD. I rarely use the netbook, in spite of its conveniences. I have never had a problem with the front-loading tray; never have had a disc "jump" out of its disc-well; have used it for many nights of 8+ hours of constant random playback (often switching in new discs during playback;) and have played over 300 different discs without problems of playback/player identification issues. I do not keep burned discs in my collection, so I cannot vouch for all varieties of copied music being compatible. My disc changer is paired with an Onkyo TX-SR806 A/V Receiver via an optical connection, and I have had exactly zero problems with either. I keep both in a somewhat open environment (1.5" to the L, 6" above, 12" behind, and 18" to the R of the stack) with an Antec component fan on top of the receiver to maximize air flow throughout. No troubles with overheating, and therefore, no loss of performance (permanent or otherwise.) The price is ridiculously fair. Would I purchase it again? Yes, without a doubt. I intend to buy a couple more units such that I have replacements if Onkyo ever stops producing these fine machines; I have 50+ years of life left, and I intend to jam to the bittersweet end. **UPDATE**: Today (Aug 19, 2011) I received my two new DXC390 units! They look identical to the original from the review above. Manufacture date of each is from 2011, meaning these are still being produced and not just old stock. Both of the new units are functioning without a hitch so far, and pumping out KISS Icons with graceful detail. It is fitting that these arrived today, as it is the 28-month anniversary date of receiving the first. The original unit is still rocking along, no problems! Now, if I can just get my fiancee to allow me to purchase three more of these over the first couple years of our marriage... :) By the way, I purchased a "Digital Audio" 3-way rotary digital optical selector switch for connection of all three disc-changers to the same A/V optical input. I am waiting for some new optical cables to come in the mail to connect them all up, at which time I will review the 3-way optical selector at the following link: Cables to Go 28734 Digital Audio Explorer Toslink Selector Switch ... show more

  • Awesome cd changer
Style: DX-C390
This changer works well and you can even remove and add different CDs while one is playing. I can’t believe I dealt with the cartridge style changer for so many years.
