  • Good sound nothing else
Style: DCD-600NE
The unit arrived on time, well packaged and simple to set-up and use. The display is good for showing what track you are on. If you want to know how many tracks there are on the disk you have to insert the disk without first choosing a track (or pressing PLY, upon which the unit goes to track#1 and keep the number of tracks a secret...Yes, there are ways to deal with it but why do you have to? Maybe the idea is that the display is inherently harmful to the sound quality? That cannot be the answer - the unit has the option that turns off the display entirely so what is the problem of displaying all the information for those who suspect that this feature is not catering for a severe problem anyhow.... As to the remote. Many have commented on this silly device. It is almost completely useless for anybody that did not buy one of the recent Denon amplifiers.... I happen to have PMA 2000 which is still very good and the remote does not affect it at all. The original remote of my amp is good enough to operate both the CD player and the amp. I find it utterly unacceptable that the incompatibility of the remote of the new CD player with older Denon amplifiers is not spelled out in advance in the product description! For classical music users this is a good unit though. ... show more

  • The dreaded "Can't Read Disc" error
Style: DCD-600NE
This CD player worked fine, and sounded great, for six and a half months. A couple days ago, it stopped reading discs, displaying the "Can't Read Disc" error. That error was common for many of the CD-Rs that I had burned, but never for commercial CDs. Now every CD, commercial or otherwise, triggers the error, without exception. I tried leaving it off for a few hours, unplugging it, just to see if it were just some weird glitch, but that didn't resolve the problem. (I saw that at least one other Amazon reviewer reported this problem within having the unit for less than a year, so it doesn't appear to be a one-off problem.) So, faced with the cost to ship it to a repair center (and probably springing for shipping insurance, too), and given the reports I've seen of repairs taking four to six months (with no guarantee that the warranty would be honored), I decided to take the cover off and see whether cleaning the lens would help. I tried a dry cotton swab first, which didn't help. Isopropyl alcohol on the lens didn't help, either. I also sprayed the inside with compressed air, although that was unnecessary because the inside of the player was entirely dust-free. And there were no obvious failed components inside (e.g., broken belt, disconnected ribbon cable, etc.). I've decided to consider my Denon purchase a sunk cost and put whatever money I'd spend on the repair toward buying another CD player. In almost fifty years of owning stereo equipment, I've had only one item that failed so soon after acquisition, and that was a cheapo Radio Shack all-in-one system that I purchased about 45 years ago. Everything else has lasted years or decades. Too bad, because the sound of the Denon player was outstanding. I rarely buy extended warranties but, like others, I recommend doing so if you purchase this CD player. I now wish I had done so. ... show more

  • Other reviews r for the amp not cd player
Style: DCD-600NE
I hate it when reviews are when people first receive a product. Most products are great for a week or so. That said I'm doing it basically because the other 2 reviews are for a related amp NOT this CD player. Some kinda error. I did alot of research and all the well know brands we all loved from the 80's and 90's continue to make electronics, but because we all want lower prices the quality suffers. What was made in Japan is made in China and even if it's made in Japan statictics say Americans won't pay for quality so you need to spend 4 or 5k for a limited production CD player or buy a used one from the past. Look at 1 star ratings for name brand CD players. They all say the same thing. Sounds great out of the box, but months later stopped reading CD's. I experienced the same thing on a audiophile quality one. I bought this as a result. The price to me seems cheep for it sound quality claims. Time will tell if this has longevity. I'll update if It's amazing or has problems. Out of the box It sounds good. I'm using the fiber optic output. The weight feels decent And the front cover appears to be billit aluminum. The power cord is not removable like many and it does not come with fiber optic cable, but comes with standard RC cables. This is a basic unit...open/ close, play stop pause forward track, back a track. The remote has more to offer. I need more time to comment on that. Ok it's been a year. I've had no problems. Working from home because coronavirus I've used it daily. I like it so much I got rid of my Onkyo home theater receiver and bought Denon's flagship AVR-X8500H which I am equity impressed with. ... show more

  • DESPITE THE CLAIMS IT WILL NOT PLAY CD-Rs
Style: DCD-600NE
not up to speed really - big disappointment! At first the unit would not read any CDs - ''no disc'' constantly Contacted seller through Amazon in the usual way - said i had to contact Denon directly as they could not help! Living in the Caribbean I had to have it repaired at my own cost. Now it works and accepts discs and claims to read them but will only play originals. Originals can be dirty and they can play but spotless well burnt CD-Rs that play fine on my Pioneer, Sony BLU-ray and my car stereo cannot play on this!! Despite the claims that it plays burnt CDs!! Wish I had not bought this. Very disappointing! ... show more

  • Warm sound, solidly built
Style: DCD-600NE
I've used the Denon DCD-600NE CD player for a month and am very happy with my purchase. I bought it a bit hesitantly because the NAD C 538 I was considering was unavailable for months due to supply chain shortages and some of the reviews here hinted at quality issues. In the month I've had it, I've been pleased with the warm sound of this player, the solid construction, and its ability to play CDs that skipped on my old player. I didn't encounter any quality issues. A nice touch is that the display shows the artist and name of the song for MP3s. A few nitpicks: I am not a fan of remotes for everything. This product could be better if the random play function and the pure direct feature were accessible by buttons on the unit instead of on the remote. It seems silly to keep a remote around just for these two functions. ... show more
