Description

Listen to hi-res audio and masterfully reproduced songs with the Denon DCD-800NE CD Player with integrated USB port. Advanced AL32 Processing Plus, combined with an innovative circuitry structure, ensure recordings are accurately reproduced, free of interference and beautifully faithful to the original sound. More than a CD player, the DCD-800NE supplies the highest quality audio signals to the amp, and the USB port supports hi-res playback up to PCM192/24 and DSD 2.8 MHz/5.6 MHz. Listen with the Pure Direct Mode on the CD player, which feeds sound directly to amplifiers bypassing any processing that might color the signal, resulting in clean, detailed and accurate sound. Vibration-resistant design reduces adverse audio effects of heavy components within amplifiers, so sound quality meets Denon standards.

  • Denon DCD800NE CD Player
I will be comparing it to my Denon changer DCM-370 which is about 20 years old now. The old DCM-370 was receiving excellent reviews in its days for the quality of sound it produced. The sound of the new player is better, but it is not a dramatic change, it is not noticeable right away, but after hearing to several tracks. The sound is more smooth and refined, I don't hear anymore some tiny artifacts in trebles or upper mids during louder and more complicated passages. I have a feeling that I can also hear more details in music, especially on recordings from recent years. The only thing I don't like about the sound specifically is that upper mids and trebles are a little bit elevated, at least in comparison with the old player. This is not a warm sounding player at all. But I understand, that engineers (or rather sales people) have an obligation to spoil something on cheaper models, otherwise nobody would be buying more expensive ones. Sound was evaluated with Asgard 2 amplifier, HD6xx, Tecsun wooden headphones, and Hifiman HE560 headphones. Hifimans were connected through equalizer to tame down excessive trebles which characterize these phones. Here are some other things I don't like about this player: - silver version is not available in USA - european version (even with VAT included) is cheaper - display could be larger and brighter - no gapless playback, which is annoying when listening to, for example, opera music from USB drive - USB input can only read from USB flash drive, you can't use the player's DAC to play music from digital output of digital audio player or phone - 32 bit processing is in my opinion marketing BS. Very small number of people can distinguish between 16 and 24 bit resolution, even when the music has very high dynamic range. 32 bits are overkill, for which the consumer has to pay and doesn't receive any practical value for that. - Pure Direct Mode is another BS invented by marketing people. I am sure, that usefulness of that feature is not supported by any measurements or listening tests. Pure Direct Mode should be used only with the purpose of extending the life of a display. Those types of displays have tendency to fade out in time. ... show more

  • Sound Reproduction
The 32 bit D/A converters in this player really shine. If the CD your playing was well recorded, the quality sound will come through. If, on the other hand, it was poorly recorded you won't be able to hide it on this player. I rarely use the remote for my cd players so it took a week or so to find out the one shipped with the player didn't work. Amazon quickly sent me another complete player. I removed the remote form the new player, inserted the original one that didn't work and it was off back to Amazon. They reacted quickly to remedy and make good on my purchase. You don't get that kind of service everywhere. ... show more

  • Broke in 3 weeks
Suddenly after about 3 weeks, the cd loading tray would not stay closed. Dear Denon, CD players are a fully mature technology. There is absolutely no excuse for something so simple like a CD tray not to work. I also got their amplifier and I returned both, because they don't deserve my business. Got the Marantz CD + Amp combo instead. ... show more

  • Obviously better than your commodity CD player
I didn't test 100 different CD players. I just trust Denon and chose something that matched my price point. That said, the A/B test vs the "average" CD player I was replacing was extremely revealing. I can't give you meaningful data in a review like this, but the clarity, warmth, detail, etc. were all immediately and obviously better than my previous player (a mid-price Sony that was several years old). If the question is "Do I really get something more by spending more compared to an ordinary player?" the answer is yes. Are there other excellent players out there? I'm sure there are... but I don't hesitate recommending this one to anyone. ... show more

  • Worth every dollar spent!
This CD player is worth every dollar spent. This Denon player has breathed new life into my cd's, I'm hearing things in the background that I never did before. It also will play cd's with scratches that my old Sony player would not as long as they are not excessively deep. So far the only knock i can give is that the remote is not specific to this player, it is generic and there are a lot of buttons that are not used, so it is larger than it needs to be. I use this as a stand alone with a dac/amp setup with audiophile headphones and the sound quality is impeccable. I haven't used the usb port yet, but I'm certain that it will perform equally as well as the cd player. The left/right balanced out takes the sound level up greatly if you have phones with balanced cables. To sum up, this is in my opinion an audiophile grade player when setup properly and used with quality headphones and or speakers. I'm extremely pleased with this purchase, and as always Amazon was great with its selection and shipping. ... show more

  • Denon DCD-800NE cd player
I purchased a new Denon DCD_800NE cd player. Unfortunately it did not work right out of the box the right channel did not work, that is a quality control issue from Denon. I had purchased a Denon PMA-600NE amplifier witch I am very happy with, the sound quality it produces is awesome! that is what guided me towards the Denon cd player. The replacement that promptly sent by the seller works as it should. The speakers that are connected to the system are Elac debut b6.2 my cd's sound amazing so overall I am happy with the cd player hopefully it will last. I had also read a bunch of positive reviews on the cd player that helped with my decision. ... show more
