I teach in a public school here in the United States. It's theoretically dangerous, not because of my students, but because of people from outside the school coming in. That occurrence is pretty unlikely, but I wanted a bat or club or something that would fit lengthwise in my top desk drawer, so it wasn't just on display all the time for my students to think about. It's basically for a an actual lockdown when there is real danger in the school, so that when my students are camped out in the corner behind a barricade of desks I can stand next to the door with something besides my hands. It's the perfect fit for a desk drawer, and it's heavy, too. Like the weight of a wood baseball bat in half the length. Perfect club. I used to keep a hammer in my desk, but honestly the thought of using a hammer for self defense is disturbing enough that I'd probably freeze up rather than use it. Anyway, for those of you looking at this for its intended purpose, it has the heft of an entire bat, and the grip is really very similar to that of a regular length bat, though I don't really play baseball anymore. ... show more

Would have preferred natural grain, and might not have had the one of the cons I encountered if it had, which is that had an odor so strong, like gassing off smell, had to stick it in 2 plastic bags. Couple days later smell is somewhat reduced, but whatever paint or lacquer used definitely left fumes. Thought I could withstand it, but got too much for the room it was in, better now, though. And other con also paint, is it got a chip off the paint on the handle. Now the fumes, they go away and so not a lasting issue. Paint chip size of cooked rice grain can be sanded so it won't chip bigger. These are cosmetic things and not performance. Bat itself definitely is 18 inches, measured. Wood has got a nice weight to it for practising one handed swings. I don't see it cracking on me because I'm using plastic hollow practice balls, as it is all about repetitions and not making a home run. I can actually put two hands on it as my hands are small, but I actually like the starting weight of 1 lb. My main goal is to increase strength, and I do 12 reps with each hand, and what I'd planned to do I find this does very well, which is wrap close to the top of the bat a 1 lb. hand-wrap weight, and I found I can usually get away with another 10 reps with the added pound before it gets lose, and this takes building swing strength to the next level. I think it is pretty sweet for what it is. If it snaps too soon will try to report here, but so far doing good, but then again I'm not aggressive with it as some younger players may be. ... show more

My nephew loves to come over and spend time with us. My husband enjoys spending time with him practicing on his hitting. We've tried different types of bats- beginner bats, and some work better than others. This was different in the fact it is a one hand bat. This is specific in helping with eye hand coordination and strengthening hand grips. This is an 18 inch birchwood bat and it's evident that they used premium grade material. The bath is smooth to the touch, finished professionally. Although the bat is shorter at 18", it actually has equal force as a regulation size bat. My nephew seems to be adapting quite nicely- I'm glad the bat is not heavy, which most aluminum ones are. This is perfect for his little size. This is a beginners baseball training aid. I find that the designer did well in creating a great resource for the newest of new members to play baseball or softball. I am also appreciative of the type of material used, Birchwood is known to be an excellent material for bats. The dimensions of this bat are as follows: 18 x 2.25 x 0.1 inches and 47 kilos All in all, I find that this is a really nice training bat. My nephew is super happy, which in turn makes me very happy. Seems to be a well made bat. I've used t-ball bats in the past to do one-hand drills with my 12u team, and it works in a pinch, but they're still too long. I'm looking forward to training with this short unit. The bat is of a good weight and the feels nice in the hand. Wood is wood and has inherent dangers of breaking, but I've taken several swings so far without issue. ... show more

This is another item the 12-year-old kiddo used at baseball camp and came home asking for. It definitely is on the smaller side and is not for play, and instead is for training and technique. He learned drills that he can do at home with this from the "college players" and is excited to keep up his training. These can be used for hitting off a tee or during soft toss to practice mechanics. He knew what to do from camp, otherwise I think it would take some getting used to. ... show more
