I like to mix lump with Kingsford charcoal for extra flavor. Add 3 decent size chunks of wood and it comes out awesome with lots of compliments. You'll see complaints of the temp gauge being inaccurate. I found the problem to be where the heats coming from. If it's burning more on one side and your probs on the other side its gonna be different. When I have it over the gauge they reads the same. That's why pros have multiple guages. All grills have hot spots so have your second thermometer on the other side and meet in the middle. It's easy to dial in temp. 1st run ran a little hot the 2nd I had it holding at 225 for the 8 hours needed with little effort. Lots of youtub videos to help if needed. Well built, beginner friendly with much better flavor than pellet and so much easier than off set smokers ... show more

I will have to start with the shipping, I am SO glad I chose to have Amazon put this together for us, I bought it as a gift for my husbands 60th birthday. It is huge! It's very heavy, and it took 2 guys to bring it in. Kudos to the Amazon guys who came, they were awesome, they made sure I was satisfied, had me look all over the whole product to make sure everything was there. They even took photos. Now, the smoker. I can't lie, I think its the best I have eaten. So far my husband has used it at least 5 times in the month of September. We have had no issues at all. My husband is the one who uses it, here are his words. Very efficient, no smoke leaks, Cooks all day 12 hours from one pot of coals , and wood, never had to add anything, or even turn meat. It cooks to perfection. Easy to clean, and the COLOR Orange was awesome! Easy to regulate temp. He recommends that you must get meat probes, and temp probes. I bought those from Amazon separately, they are a huge help. Between the shipping service, the taste of the food, and the quality of the smoker I would highly recommend this smoker as a top quality 5 star. The meat was out of this world, he used different meats, and tried different rubs also. You won't be sorry with this one. The photos above were Pork Shoulder, Picnik roast, half brisket, and as you can see, he only cooked one thing each weekend but there's plenty of room to cook a lot of food on the large grate. In fact 4 large Pork roasts would fit comfortably . We have not tried ribs yet, that's next :-) BTW, I purchased the less expensive black one first, the smaller Oklahoma Joe , from Lowes and it had a lot of issues, the screws didn't line up, and we had to take it back , so I decided to buy the better one from Amazon. This is my second Bronco but this time I went with the pro version. I own 7 different versions of smokers and the the Bronco drum smokers are my absolute favorites. They are just soo versatile I can smoke and grill on the same cook. And the food is always very juicy and delicious. It’s hard to beat meat dripping over the coals creating its own unique smoky flavor. I like having two of these with the extra cooking grates I can really make a ton of different foods at the same time. Which is helpful because I’m occasionally selling some of my bbq these days. ... show more

A great smoker, but there's a few little niggles. When assembling: the two halves should be joined with a screw and washer - there's not enough room between the sides for the washer to fit without scraping off the finish. The handle didn't really fit the curve of the lid and I had to bend it a bit. The coal basket and ash pan cannot fit centred because of the bolts. The axle is packed, hidden, under the top; spent a few minutes cursing before I found it. The wheel assembly is poor - a circlip and a washer is all that holds it together. And finally mine was missing one of the meat hangers. Took a full 45minutes with OJ support before they agreed to send me a replacement (in 7-10 days) Amazon were useless, they wanted me to return the whole thing. In use, the thermometer is a full 50F adrift from my (accurate) thermoprobe. Beyond all those, it's fantastic bit of kit. Well finished and solid. I think it'll last years. When cooking, it does exactly what you'd want. Temperatures are easy to control and stable. Overall, I'm really happy with it & I'm getting some great bbq. ... show more

Just got this smoker/grill yesterday. We really liked until we found out there was no thermostat. Called the compamy and they are stating it will take 4-6 weeks get receive another one as she states they are out of stock.What joke, spent almost 400 dollar's and wont be able to smoke any meat for over month. ... show more

My friends and family push Traeger (duh) but I didn't have all the room. Plus, I have a nice Weber grill and wanted something to compliment it. I picked this for the dual cooking aspect. Again, I have looked up smokers and knew what to look for. Though there is a problem with the air intake stack, the fine folks at Char-broil are super quick to send out a replacement. Look this up, it is a known issue. Secondly, I wanted to get back to charcoal grilling. There is a difference, plain and simple. OKJ does this for me, too. You literally lift out the heat diffuser, remove the charcoal basket, flip over the heat diffuser then put the charcoal basket on top. Finally and obviously, you put the grill back on top. Tah freakin' dah. It's super simple to put together. You are literally building it upside down then turning right side up. It says you need 2 people to do that but you don't. Test it first without killing yourself. Like I said, the only problem was the intake stack and they either fixed it in newer iterations or will replace once you register. So simple. Totally recommend. Especially if you are new to this and have limited space. You can get the larger size too, btw. The thing looks like a beast!!! ... show more
