Some users report having a reduced smoke flavor with pellets, but overall, the grill appears to perform well in a variety of conditions, resulting in moist, savory food. A key aspect is the smart app that lets you control and monitor your grill remotely.

Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for a user-friendly, Wi-Fi-enabled smoker that provides reliably good cooking results, the Traeger 780 Pro Smoker is definitely worth considering. Bear in mind that some users found the smoke flavor to be somewhat mild, so if a robust smoke flavor is your priority, you may want to explore further. However, for most users, the product's strengths notably outweigh its minimal drawbacks.

  • Awesome Smoker
Style: Grill + Cover + Pellets
I absolutely love the smoker, it is very easy to use, and is extremely nice quality. My only issue with it is it doesn’t put out enough smoke so to increase the amount of smoke I bought a LIZZQ 12” Premium Pellet Smoker Tube from Amazon and it made all the difference in the world. Just pack it full of pellets, and light it with a torch of some sort, I have a propane torch that I use and put it inside the smoker and it seriously increases the amount of smoke while cooking. ... show more

  • Ecstatic after my first cook
Style: Grill + Cover + Pellets
My buddy got a Traeger 570 last year and I was sufficiently impressed that I had been looking for an excuse to get a smoker myself after doing it on my gas grill with indirect heat and smoke tubes. Watched dozens of video reviews of different brands and kept coming back to the Traeger. Decided on the 780 Pro for the WiFire and larger cooking area. Scheduled a delivery on a Friday afternoon, assembled it with a little help from the wife to make sure I didn't pull anything while standing it back up on it's legs, and did the seasoning all in about 2 hours. I've seen several complaints about the wifi connection process, but mine went smoothly and connected the first time (make sure your phone is on the 2.4ghz network you want the grill to be on; easy peasy). Woke up a 0 dark thirty the next morning and set the grill for 275 to preheat while I trimmed up and seasoned the boston butt. The 780 got to temp in about 20 minutes even though it was 29 degrees outside when I started. Got the meat on and smoked then wrapped for about 9 hours total. I did use one smoke tube of pellets to give some extra smoke, since the 780 doesn't have the "super smoke" option the Timberline models do. Temps never wandered more than about 8 degrees up or down according to the app and the probe alarm told me when we'd hit 205. Even the wife was really impressed with the flavor and tenderness of the pork. So far I'm really happy with my purchase and looking forward to doing the Thanksgiving turkey this year! ... show more

  • Great Grill But.....
Style: Grill + Cover + Pellets
This is the first pellet grill I have ever purchased. Very easy to assemble. Took about an hour and no problems at all. I purchased the shelf with mine and glad I did. Seems to have a big temperature variation, but from everything I've read, it's normal. Have cooked ribs, chicken, and a beef brisket so far, and all turned out great, although the brisket took 4 hrs longer than expected. I love the size, and I could have cooked all 3 at once had I wanted to....Amazon let me down on this one. I've purchased many many things over the years but this will probably be my last purchase. I put it together the day after I got it. The next day Amazon had it for $200 cheaper. I called and was told since it was so much cheaper that they could not price match it. If it had been $100 cheaper they could have credited my account and none of that made sense. It doesn't change how much I like the Traeger grill only how much I dislike Amazon now. ... show more

  • Caught fire on 2nd use
Style: Grill + Cover + Pellets
Owned this for 2 weeks. Preheated to 220. Put the meat on, came back put after 30 minutes to the unit fully shut down. Tried to reboot. Was going through the ignite cycle again. And thr pellets in my hopped started smoking severely without thr pilot being lit. On first use I followed the shut down procedure properly. I keep a cover over the grill. While their honoring the warranty and replacing. I, 1. Have to unassemble the grill I have now. 2. Will need to re assemble the new grill when it arrives AGAIN. 3. Need to make a run to my local dump woth all the boxes and Styrofoam, again. Since my local trash doesn't take that much cardboard or Styrofoam. 4. This mishap wasted a 40$ salmon, 30$ in organic chicken and a 20$ bag of pellets. And the dump will charge me 20$ for entry. So, with the waste of 90 mins assembling the last one, another 90 minutes of unassembley time. Another 90 minutes to assemble the new one. 90 minutes to the dump and back. Thats 6 hours of wasted time and 20$ at the dump, 70$ in food and 20$ wasted in pellets. Total of 110$ wasted... This has been a HORRIBLE experience with my first traeger over the last 2 weeks of ownership. ... show more
