  • Plug and play with the Ohmkat power supply
This review is for the Ohmkat Universal Video Doorbell Chime; not the Ohmkat Video Doorbell Power Supply. The chime is designed to work with the power supply; I have reviewed the power supply separately. This is the unit that produces the sound when the doorbell is pressed - and it does that quite well! This product has two components. The first is the transmitter, which plugs directly into the Ohmkat power supply and sends an RF signal to the chime unit, which plugs into a standard AC outlet. The only configuration required for the chime is to select the volume and the desired chime tone. I think the vendor missed an opportunity by not mentioning in the product information that it has 3 volume levels and 32 chime tones from which you can select. I think more people would be inclined to buy it if they realized that it had those selections. It has the typical ding-dong, ring, and Westminster chimes, but also quite a variety of other tones, including The Nutcracker, Jingle Bells, Beehoven's 5th (I think) and a bunch of others. Some sound quite classy. For my house, I don't think either the lower or middle volume levels will suffice. I don't think I would hear it from the bedroom or my home office. But the high volume is adequate for my situation. I think that some tones would be more easily heard than others, if I happened to be in another room from the chime. I was going to buy my own chime from the big box hardware store, but my wife particularly wanted a Westminster chime and those that I found cost almost as much as the Ohmkat and I would have had to wire them in line with the power supply and doorbell. The Ohmkat Chime is truly plug and play - just plug the transmitter in between the power supply the the cord that connects to the doorbell and plug the chime into an outlet and it's operational. My only complaint is that there is only one button to select the tone (and another for the volume) so, if you hear a tone you like and advance to see what else there is, you have to loop through all 32 tones to get back to the one you like. But, since most people will not be changing the tones frequently, I think this is only a minor inconvenience. Overall, I think this is a great purchase if you don't already have an existing doorbell and want some audible notification, other than your phone, or a Google Home device, that your doorbell has been pushed. ... show more

  • Nice kit, opens many possible application
This is a perfect option when you hardwire video door bell without existing door bell. Transmitter is basically wired in place of standard door chime bell. This opens lots of possible application. It can be installed in place of standard door chime bell and put push button at the other end instead of video door bell and have multiple wireless receivers in different locations of the house. Black wire is just fed through and doesn't actually get used in the circuit. So, all this actually needs to activate is feeding 18-20VAC between 2 red wires. I wish case was smaller. It is unnecessarily big. Circuit board it self could be compacted more as well. It would be really nice if OhmKat comes up with power supply with built in transmitter. It will make installation much cleaner. ... show more

  • Works with Xfinity video doorbell!
I got an Xfinity video doorbell and found out that my house doesn’t have a chime box or wired doorbell setup. For the last year, we had no indoor chime for the doorbell which was sometimes very frustrating. I spent forever searching for universal video doorbell chimes and Ohmkat was the only one that looked promising. I was nervous about having to rewire the doorbell on my own as we had ours professionally installed because I don’t know diddly squat about wiring and what not. The installation was super easy! If you’re a novice like myself, I recommend a wire hanger or something to fish the power cable through the wall. That part took me the longest to figure out. I didn’t have to worry about drilling holes since it was already done in the original installation. Just a reminder that you have to also purchase the Ohmkat pro install power supply for this to work as an indoor wireless chime for the Xfinity video doorbell. ... show more

  • Did not work for my nest doorbell
I purchased a nest doorbell as it seemed superior to the other brands, had an electrician install an adapter. However, I could not get a ring tone inside the house without a wired doorbell. So I hoped the ohm cat door ring and adapter would be the trick. I had to hire an electrician a second time to switch out the adapters to convert to the ohm cat. Why they are not sold as a set is beyond me? At first it appeared to work so wonderfully, but after a couple hours of ongoing "ghost" rings when no one had pressed the doorbell or was even at the door I had to unplug the chime. :( So I contacted the seller and they gave me instructions to reboot the system but stated sometimes the google nest would not stop the ghost rings and therefore was not compatible. I did as they suggested and still ongoing ghost rings. I had to unplug the chime or else it would keep going off several times in a hour and thru the night unnecessarily. Unfortunately, I do not want to pay an electrician a 3rd time to convert back to the initial adapter so I now have all this ohm cat apparatus hanging from my outlet in order to charge my doorbell. :( I will say the manufacturer did refund my money when I reached out with these concerns & sent me a new unit in case the unit I had was the issue. Unfortunately, the new unit did the same thing. I would LOVE for someone to create this kind of item that DOES work with the google nest doorbell! I love having the doorbell for security, but can no longer hear if someone rings the bell which means in someways I no longer have a doorbell if my phone isn't right by me. Very frustrating. I have heard great reviews of the ring chime adapter working for the ring doorbell. Had I knows ahead of time I might has opted for a ring versus a nest. ... show more
