Close to 20 years ago I bought a poker table with four chairs at a Home and Garden show. I loved the table and while it doesn't get used all the time it's great for parties. I noticed a few of the chairs weren't sitting right and I discovered this type of mechanism that came on the original chairs was damaged. My employer was throwing away an office chair, nice in every way except the air spring would not stay up. Snagged from the jaws of the trash compactor, I took a gamble and bought this replacement part. For a few bucks and a bit of labor with a dead-blow mallet I freed the old assembly and installed this part. I needed to install a new cylinder because my old base broke on my chair and it was well loved so the cylinder was stuck in the base. I bought this one because I am tall and loved that it provided extra height. I got the new base and cylinder installed and sat in the chair the first time and my wife sat this the chair 1 time. My wife is petite and I am tall and heavier set. The base will not even lock at the lowest position. It rises when you get up and sinks when you sit. I looked for heavier duty to make sure the cylinder would not break down and clearly this is not made as advertised. ... show more
