    • Newer (2018) vs Older Version, & Excellent Fit for DIY Air Conditioner
. That's correct: the 02Cool is an excellent fit for a DIY 5 gallon air conditioner WITHOUT any modification to the top of the bucket or Styrofoam bucket liner. While our first purchase of the 02Cool was two units in 2011 (which are still in emergency operational use), this review also covers comparisons with the newer model recently purchased. The newer version has a 2018 manufacture date on it. The PLUSES are: 1. Both the older and newer (2018) model have very low wattage use when on either low or high setting (about 14/19 watts power draw respectively). This negligible use of watts is excellent when the fans are connect to an emergency backup battery source like the Goal Zero units (more on that latter): 2. The newer model seems more monolithic in build and seems to use lighter weight materials; 3. It is easier to open the new model base, where in the old model it could be difficult and frustrating unless you used the correct opening technique; 4. While the newer model is more quieter, it seems to produce less forced air when on higher setting (especially at greater distances from the fan). The simple solution is to place the fan closer to the person. NEGATIVE--Only applies to the Newer Model (2018): 1. The only significant negative is that the manufacturer REMOVED the convenient REAL HOOK where the fan operator could use the hook to hang the fan on a rope or bar. What is on the newer model is more like a 90 degree handhold. For both models, if one has planned resources for "when the lights go out" because of any critical incident, then it makes complete survival sense to use these fans because: 1) Battery operated; 2) Low Wattage (for use with batteries, and backup battery sources such as homemade units or the Goal Zero units), and 3) Portability (including use on top of the DIY 5 gallon bucket you built to cool down those that God placed in your stewardship such as the aged and the infirmed. While it is best to have your own lower wattage deep freezer and backup battery power to make and store your own ice, note that at least during the recover period during a critical incident FEMA and/or your local state emergency management operations usually provide ice to residents. Save those food grade tough plastic bottles so you can repeatedly refreeze the water in those bottle to use in your DIY 5 Gallon Air Conditioner. Lastly, the O2Cool fan can be laid flat on top of your DIY 5 Gallon Air Conditioner without having to cut the top lid of the bucket or the Styrofoam bucket liner that prolongs the life the ice.     • FANtastic fan!
I bought these fans in case of power outage because it's plug in or battery operated. I used it one night instead of my ceiling fan in my bedroom and it was even more quiet than the ceiling fan! It's a great fan, adjustable and works very well. I definitely recommend this.

I have been a fan from this great fan company. ( No pun intended). Ever since my nephew made us aware of this battery operated fans after a disaster hurricane hit our area, we have bought several of them during the years. Two weeks ago the air conditioner unit in the area where I sleep had to be replaced. The four days it took for the work to be done, I slept with three fans in my room. Slept very comfortable and the slow low noise did not disturb my sleep . I also love their individual around the neck fans. Great when you are cooking or baking and get hot flashes. ... show more

    • When the power goes out and it's 95 degrees, these are a must have
We now have 9 of these, only one quit working on batteries but still works plugged in. Old ones required 8 batteries, these only take 6, but they provide a pretty good airflow when it is hot and the power goes out. We have a stock of batteries to replace in all of them, but batteries last pretty well. D batteries are hard to find in emergencies, suggest you keep a good supply on hand. ... show more

Purchased to update my hurricane readiness stockpile. Have not used it but did try it with the batteries to see air flow. Air flow is not the same as an electrical fan but does what I want it to do. Just need something to circulate air when power is out during a storm. Bought two so that my husband and I both can have one. Also might try it on my patio when we have guests. ... show more

    • Cure for sleepless nights in hotel rooms when traveling
I travel with this fan and the white noise & breeze helps me sleep in hotel rooms. Also, worth it's weight in gold if you lose power after a powerful storm and have lots of batteries.
