I had to modify it a little to get it to work. The contacts were not close enough to each other to make the bell sound when the circuit was completed. Once I did that, it worked every time.

"Newhouse Hardware APB1 All Purpose Door Bell" These are reasonably loud even at 3 volts. The sound is more of a buzz than a bell -- but it is loud enough without being excessive. A lot better and more distinct than the chirping 1000 Hz you hear everywhere, especially if you're hearing is impaired. You can adjust the voltage and ringer distance from the bell to customize the the sound if you wanted, though I don't have a reason to do that. === Revised: Rating cut from 5 stars to 3 stars. After some period of use, I found this to be unreliable at lower voltages. That is, the hammer sticks in a position which will cause the bell to not ring. Current draw is considerable (several amps) at 12 VDC but it's more reliable. A close inspection of the contacts (because it proved unreliable) shows they do not line up well. In fact, less than 1/2 of the contact surface mates properly. Moreover, the metal cannot be bent easily to make the contacts line up properly (if at all). Switching to 16 VAC and hopefully it won't burn up. ... show more

We got this because our old doorbell stopped working and we were missing packages. It’s loud and was pretty easy to install. What more could you ask for out of a doorbell?

    • Great buzzer for a recieving door. It could be a bit louder.
Direct swap for the one that went bad. Be very careful handling it during the install. The arm is easy to bend and if it is out of adjustment it won't work good. But once in and adjusted. It works.

I bought this as a replacement doorbell for my 100-year old house. Installation is easy, just twist some wires together and you're done. It was a bit lighter weight than I had expected; definitely not heavy-duty construction, but then again, you get what you pay for. It's plenty loud - I can hear it from anywhere in the house. The sound is more like a buzz because it rings very rapidly, so it's not quite the sound that you remember from grade school. ... show more

    • Cute Bell, Wiring Diagram Could Be Better
The media could not be loaded. I'm so excited to install this bell in my old farmhouse! I have not yet installed it in my house but I did test it using my raspberry pi as a powersupply. The bell is very loud and the raspberry pi only supplies 5V. The video shows a demo of the bell ringing and you can see how I wired it (black is hot aka transformer and blue is the doorbell connection). The wiring diagram it comes with has a terrible drawing of the connections so hopefully the video is helpful! ... show more
