It looks like a solid fabrication, and is, but the latch mechanism moves less than 1/4" between latched and released. It is the same design as the stamped sheet metal couplers that come on all cheap light weight trailers, and are also made in China. I have had a dozen of this type of coupler release at highway speed. Even with the safety chains preventing a run away, you still get a trailer crashing into your vehicle. For $10 more, you can get an American Made Bulldog. Used properly, the Bulldog will never release unexpectedly. It's only shortcoming is that it has no grease zerk on the ball capture pivot, but then none of them do. If comparing prices, (remember this unit requires the receiver AND the rail to bolt it to. Then the rail needs to be welded to your trailer. The bolts are another failure point, and the welds have a levered torque load and need stronger welds or gussets. You will have to look hard for someone with more experience towing boats for 50 years (own 23 of them, plus 4 semi tractors. often pulled as triple and 19 semi trailers. Buy the Bulldog !!! it is that simple. ... show more
