This is a somewhat medium-heavy duty hinges but look at the screws… (see pic) Those 1/2 inch screws that comes with it will not do the job! They either need to include an equivalent durability screws or buyer will need to buy them separately

The hinges themselves are as expected...basic T-Strap hinge, metal approximately 3/16" thick. The screws included are definitively WAY too small (about #6 x 0.75") for hinges of this size. As these are 12" hinges, the expected use would more than likely be medium-to-heavy duty, and the screws provided should be at least #10 to #12 x 1-1/4" to 1-1/2". ... show more

Well, these worthless things are going back! First: shipping. Hey Amazon, putting heavy objects (like six 8-inch T-strap hinges) and screws in a flimsy plastic bag and then shipping them in another thin, flimsy plastic mailer is NOT a good way to send something. In handling, the hinges had torn their way out the their bag and were working on getting out of the mailing envelope. Perhaps that why another user reported being shorted (5 hinges received instead of 6 ordered). Despite the shipping issue, the hinges have a nice appearance. Maybe they are manufactured to be strictly decorative, not really functional. They have a nice shiny black coating, but as others have said the screws included are ridiculously small. You would need to use at least a #12 wood screw in a reasonable length to make these secure. So, nice appearance and some decent screws and I'm all set, right? Wrong. Once installed, I quickly saw the weak point in these hinges. It has to do with the hinge pin that holds the rectangular leaf of the hinge to the triangular strap leaf of the hinge. Maybe those who found these hinges to be strong and sturdy had something different than my 8-inch ones. On mine, the halves of the hinge wobble and wiggle something awful. On close inspection, it appears the hinge pin is either seriously undersized (in diameter) and/or isn't a full length pin, that is, a short piece on the top and another short piece from the bottom. Whatever the case, the result is that the hinge halves wobble both side to side and top to bottom, instead of swinging smoothly to and fro. Consequently, whatever you have them mounted to, wobbles also. I can't imagine a gate or cabinet door or whatever being able to close smoothly with these things. For my part, I went to the hardware store and bought some similar hinges that are much thicker, much better made, and very smooth operating -- at about the double the cost of the black hinges. I should have guessed from the bargain price of the Amazon offering that these wouldn't be good but I was fooled by the many reviews which claimed they were strong and of good quality. That is certainly puzzling to me, as mine are completely useless for my application. ... show more
