I was looking for a metal detector to have around for finding lost screws, etc in the yard. I ran accross the GoGonova one and decided to put it to the test. I went out in the yard and buried several metal objects and a few coins in the back yard at various depths to test the accuracy of this metal detector. First the good news is that this detector is really pretty accurate, there were some false alerts but after you really get it dialed in and the sensitivity adjusted it really did a good job finding the majority of items I buried. The only thing I wish would be improved is the “depth” gauge. It really doesn’t tell you anything more than either the item is on the surface, a little under the ground or really underground. And little and really don’t have any rhyme or reason as to how far down that actually goes. The max I was able to read was about 6-7 inches underground with any kind of reliability. If the gauge could show a range on the indicator like for example 1-2 inches and 3-5 inches that would give a better idea how far you need to dig. Also on the plus side is that it comes with headphones so your friends and family are not driven crazy by all the beeps, a nice folding shovel/pick to dig, and of course the two 9 volt batteries that is used to power this detector. It was easy to use and calibrate and also easy to hold. The arm rest took most of the weight off your hand and wrist so you didn’t tire as quickly. I have been wanting a metal detector for a while now, so when this came up for a Vine Review, I jumped on it. I was unsure whether this was for adults too as the seller emphasized the youth and kids aspect of it. Because of this, I figured if it was indeed for kids, I'd give it to my neighbors kids and let them have fun with it. When it arrived, it came in a fairly small box and I figured that indeed, the kids were getting a new toy. I was shocked to find that it was just really well packaged and it is absolutely adult sized. It is made with spring loaded buttons on the tube saft so that it is adjustable to fit anyone. It came with everything shown in the sellers pictures, though the shovel is hilariously small. It would work fine in same, but I wouldn't use it in anything heavier. It is literally the size of my hand. The detector went together quickly, and I took it out to my backyard to try it out. I took a 99.9% silver coin, a nickel, a nail, some aluminum foil and a gold ring with me. I set them in the grass and tried out my new detector. It was able to identify all of the items correctly. Silver showed Silver, Gold showed Gold etc. I took it around scanning another part of my backyard, and it keeps alerting to the same spot showing both silver and gold. The depth indicator shows them as deep. I will have to wait until it is not 100* outside to dig up that spot. I live in what used to be an old logging camp in the late 1800's, and then was a camping and fishing resort in the early 1900's through the late 1940's, so who knows what is actually down there! I'm looking forward to scanning our beach too! ... show more

I got this metal detector for our vacation to the beach. It's pretty intuitive and my 5th grade daughter is now an expert with it. It's a fun activity to do and the kids absolutely love it, finding "buried treasure" is almost a primal skill that kids possess.

    • This is a toy that an adult can play with.

I have very little experience with metal detectors but I do have some. I have a semi professional detector that cost almost four times what this one sells for. I’ve used a professional detector that cost close to $1,000. So I do have some experience. Mostly searching for land boundary pins. This little detector does work but the sensitivity and depth penetration is minimal. It does a fairly decent job of discerning the difference between metals. The description says that maximum depth penetration is eight inches. That’s their stated maximum. At approximately three inches it hits consistently. The best I could get was about four inches. I did not try it in water. Perhaps it would hit at eight inches in water. To be fair, the description clearly states this detector is intended for kids between 8 and 12 years old. If I bought this for my personal use I would be giving it two stars and giving it away but if you buy it for your 10 year old I’m 99% certain he or she would rate it five stars. It’s perfect for that vacation at the beach if you only have one kid. More than one and well, you’re probably going to need one for each kid. That gives me an idea. I think I’ll bury a silver dollar about two inches deep in the back yard and tell my grandson “if you can find it you can keep it.” NOTE: I’m only rating this five stars because the manufacturer states that it is for 8 to 12 year olds. Two things: I apologize for the dirty carpet in the photos and I've never gone metal detecting before. I know nothing about it, but I've always been curious. This kit is cool because it's easy to use, easy to set up, and everything you need is in one bag you can keep in your car or whatever. I like the mini shovel, but in my experience they never stand the test of time. I'll use it until it breaks though. I've included a page of the instructions at the end to show how clear and concise they are. I'll admit I didn't read most of it, but it was easy to follow from what I sampled. The unit is loud, you're not going to have any issues unless you're in weather or places you probably shouldn't be anyway. The headphones are not my favorite, but again at this price point you can't complain. Like the shovel, I'll probably use them until they break then get something nicer. I have big ears, so this style often hurts to wear for long periods. I think due to the size these don't seem to have that issue as much, they're honestly pretty comfortable despite the looks. Finally, while I haven't gone out into the wild yet, it did seem to be accurate when I threw stuff into the yard or around the house. Best testing I've had time to do yet. All in all, if you're thinking about getting into metal detecting I think this is a great option, especially if you're trying to make profession easy! ... show more
