  • This chainsaw changed an off-grid neighbors mind on electric chainsaws
I was using this chainsaw to cut a felled tree to stock up on future firewood. Had a neighbor come over with his gas chainsaw and offer to help. He was a nice guy and I appreciated the offer so I took him up. He told me he knew all about electric chainsaws and he'll do the cutting since his saw "has more torque" and a freshly sharpened chain. I immediately noticed how much slower he was cutting through the tree that I had just cut throw before his arrival with ease, not to mention how much louder his saw was. He did a few cuts and we went back to splitting. He was tired so I pulled my saw back out and started cutting more slabs off of the tree. He immediately noticed how fast and cleanly this saw was cutting. After a couple of cuts, he stopped me and asked if he could try out my saw. I was happy to let him try, and I kid you not, didn't get that saw back for about three hours. He was happily cutting everything he could. If I was getting behind on splitting logs, he'd run over and help my kids by cutting the limbs they where dragging to a burn pile to make it easier for them to carry. At the end of the day, he said he was happy that he had come over to help, if only for the chance to have played with my chainsaw. That it truly changed his views on what an electric chainsaw could do. Anyhow, as for an actual review. This chainsaw is a fantastic saw, but you're going to have to have the batteries to back it up. I brought with me a 6 amp hour forge battery, 3x 5 Ah and 1x 4 Ah lithium red batteries. The forge battery worked a treat. It ran cool, and did a vast bulk of the cutting. Two of my 5 Ah batteries disabled themselves due to heat at about 50% power. It was in the low 70s temp wise, so not overly hot. After leaving them in the shade and letting them cool I was able to get the rest of the usage out of them. I've heard good things about just the regular lithium red 6 Ah batteries, so I'd recommend using at least those. I'd imagine that if you had 3 of the 6 Ah forge batteries and a 2x rapid charger, you could run this saw all day without having to stop other than a quick battery swap. Moving on, the saw, with a battery installed, weights very close to that of gasoline saws of equivalent size. I would have expected it to be a little lighter, but it doesn't feel overly heavy to me. But, if weight is an issue for you, don't expect this electric saw to be noticeably lighter than a gas saw. It will however be substantially quieter. IMO there is no need to wear hearing protection. Without access to a decibel meter, I'd guess that various vacuum cleaners would actually be louder. That said eye protection is recommended. I'm not sure how it was happening but I was getting wood pulp occasionally flying into my face and bouncing off of my safety glasses. All in all, I'm very happy with this saw. I purchased it because I don't regularly use a chainsaw and I wanted something that would be ready to go after sitting in the garage for months at a time. If you're using this somewhere without power, you're going to be limited by the batteries you can carry with you, but if you have access to power, I'd argue this is just as good, if not better than a gas chainsaw. As a final side note, battery life will be directly effected by the size of what you're cutting, battery heat too. Cutting limbs, my 5 Ah batter lasted around 2 hours, cutting the trunk of the tree, the same battery would over heat and I'd get maybe 15 minutes of cutting time total. Use 6 Ah or bigger batteries!! ... show more

  • Great saw, wife loves it.
She's not about to attempt a gas powered chainsaw. She uses the with ease and acceptance. Great performance I strongly suggest quality M18 batteries and not the Chinese knock-offs. Buy a quality battery for a quality tool.

  • Great little chain saw
This is an amazing chain saw! This is our second one! We chose Milwaukee as we have numerous Milwaukee tools and currently own the battery et several chargers. I feel it is safe to use as you have "on and off control" with your finger. It is GREAT for tree and bush trimming around the yard!

  • Plenty Powerful - Easy to Use - Light-Weight and No Mess
The media could not be loaded. This is a really serious tool that is pretty much as capable as a bass-powered chainsaw. Mine does drain a battery pretty quickly, but I purchased a 4-pack (here on Amazon) and for sure, most of my projects will not require more than a couple of batteries at any given time, so I'm cool with that. What I really appreciate is not having to mix gas, mess with a choke, yank a cord, etc. Cuts through 10-12-inch pine like a champ. Haven't tried it with harder woods, but I'm sure it's up to the task. The other thing that is excellent is that it is whisper quiet. You don't alert the neighborhood when you are out in the woods sawing up a fallen tree. It feeds its own bar oil, and seems to do it pretty efficiently. I sawed for probably 40 minutes first time out and there's still probably 2/3 oil capacity left. ... show more

  • Great for small jobs
Had a large maple tree limb fall, it was over 20” diameter by the tree. I was able to cut it all up in one session using 2 9amp high output batteries and one 5amp xc. The batteries couldn’t keep up, my 9 amp batteries lasted 15 minutes, the 5 amp somewhat less. I had some 4amp but they overheated quickly. I have since ordered a 12 amp HO, but the job is done. The saw “ate” batteries! Anything less than 9a HO will not last and will likely overheat unless you’re just cutting small stuff. Even the 9amp would get overheated if you pushed the cut. I was able to make three complete 16” cuts before I needed a fresh battery. I don’t have a rapid charger so it took a long time between charges. One brand new 9amp will only charge to 3 bars so I have to rebalance the battery pack. So even that size has limitations. The saw is heavy, will be more so with 12amp battery. It runs quiet no hearing protection needed. It’s nice not to mess with gas and pull starting machines. If you work from a ladder you don’t have to climb up it with a running chainsaw. It cut smoothly and quickly . I should have realized I needed bigger batteries, that’s on me. The buggers are expensive though, cheapest 12 amp I could find was $140. I don’t use a chainsaw much anymore, I’m almost 70 so most of my woodcutting days are behind me. This saw did what I wanted and it was very quiet. I can store it and not worry about gas going stale. It does have its limitations as outlined. All said and done it cost me less than having someone come and do the job for me plus I own a saw now. ... show more
