    • What makes this kit specific to the Symphony?

You may be wondering that. Most of the other Medela pumps have little nubs that you attach the tubing to, and that's how the pumping action works. The air is sucked through the tubes, into the shield, and there you go. The Symphony is a "hospital grade" breast pump, but what's more, it's also safe for sharing, which is why some workplaces have them. Instead of having air sucked directly through the machine, it has these two pistons at the top, and those pistons, as they go up and down, are responsible for the suction. But to convert an up and down piston motion into sucking, you need a special attachment. THAT's what's specific to this kit vs the other medela kits that might include tubing and shields and bottles. If you don't have those attachments, you cannot connect to the symphony, end of story. So this is a good kit. But you only need one like this since the Symphony specific parts do not get dirty and don't need to be washed really. Once you have this, if you want more shields and bottles, you can buy one of many other medela kits that don't include the extra symphony parts. That said, this kit includes everything you need to pump with the symphony. You don't need anything else. But as an aside it does not include nipples for the bottles. Not that it needs to - just saying if you are buying this kit to grab and go somewhere and then want to give the bottles for feeding, you need nipples for the bottles or you need other bottles. Aside from that, this includes everything you need and you don't need anything more. I have used the Medela Symphony to pump for all of my babies, so I am very familiar with this kit. However, it annoys me that the valves and membranes need to be replaced every 6-8 weeks. It is also recommended to change the shields every 6 months. For this reason, Medela should include a replacement set of membranes and valves in this kit. New moms have enough to worry about without having to remember to buy new parts for a breast pump every 6-8 weeks. For any moms noticing a drop in pumped milk around the 2nd month after birth, change your membranes and valves. ... show more

I was so happy I was able to find this kit here on Amazon because I got it so quick. I went to the actual website and wasn’t going to receive it for a whole week. The suction is great, I have the Symphony Medela hospital grade pump. Cons with this kit is it isn’t easy to clean you have to buy a straw brush to clean it well. I bought this product because one night, in my post-partum hormone induced brain fog, during a late night pumping session I knocked over my Medela Symphony Breast Pump and the tubing attachment on one side snapped off, leaving me with one functional set of tubing. I panicked and immediately went online and ordered this product. The price made me reluctant and I was afraid it wouldn't come with all the parts that I needed, as the hospital from which I rented the pump charged $60 for just the tubing, caps, and larger membranes. The bottles, valves, smaller membranes, breast flange connectors, and flanges were not included for that $60 price. This kit contains all of those for half the price. It comes with the 24mm flange size that seems to be standard for all Medela all pump parts. The great part about the flange connector is that not only is the flange interchangeable (unlike some replacement parts I purchased at Wal-Mart), but they work with other types of medela pumps as well, including the Pump In Style Advanced (Which I have), as well as the hand pump (which was not the case for the flange connectors that I received with my Pump In Style Advanced). My only complaint is really more of a slight annoyance, but does not affect functionality. The bottles included have volume measurement markings along the side that are simply indentations into the plastic, making the measurements extremely hard to see. This is exactly what I was hoping to find when looking for medela symphony parts. I used that pump in the hospital and fell in love with the parts compare to my Spectra. The symphony pump is too expensive for me so I figured out a way to make these parts work with my spectra - just google medela to symphony hack. The only reason I lowered to 4 stars is the bottles that come with feel really thin and not great quality. Also, the photos show it comes with a bottle lid/nipple but the description doesn’t say that - it doesn’t come with the lid with nipple just so you are away but does come with two yellow caps for the bottles for storage in fridge. Wish this set was able to come with 21mm flanges. I had to buy those separately. ... show more

I bought this set to have as an extra, it’s nice to have another set in case you don’t have time to wash the parts between pumping sessions. I actually like these better than what came with the pump, they are a little more comfortable
