Ive owned multiple MB smokers. My most recent one was the MB560 almost a year ago. Still running like a champ just may need to replace controller soon. Im fully aware of the quality to innovation ratio they are known for (cheaper parts for more innovative features). Very much worth it if you employ proper care and maintenance since it could last longer than the usual 3 to 5 years for these types of products. MB has outdone themselves with this grill/smoker. 0 to 550 in 14 to 20 mins and minutes to get to other temps. Easy to clean, lid gauge is about 10 to 20 off from center mass ambient so easy to work with. Only con would be some target temp numbers on the knob for convenience but 20 minutes of playing with it and you can figure out which notch is what for when the fan kicks in. Will be my daily driver for family meals. Best thing is its portability. Works with the dewalt battery pack mod I use for my MB560, but even better is the 4xAA batteries that makes it a perfect minimalist tailgating or family camping stove. Highly recommend ... show more

Very easy to use. Charcoal lasts quite a while as long as it's not too cold out when you use it. I gave it 5 stars because of the price for what you get. Keeps temp at a very accurate setting and holds it as long as you have enough charcoal in it. I add small blocks of hardwood as well. Very cool unit for tailgating. ... show more

It’s great for camping, it tends to burn from the bottom, I found using a foil pan corrugated with holes helps tremendously but squeezes the cooking surface. Taste is good and was a hit on 4th of July. Like the battery option and the cook time. 45 minutes with chunk coal and 2:30 with kingford coal.

I’m a Weber Charcoal Grill guy who got the Masterbuilt 850 at Costco (floor model, clearance price) a few years ago. If you take care of it, it will take care of you. I wanted that convenience and this grill delivers. While you can’t dial in an exact temperature, once you get a feel for it you can set a bunch of hot dogs or hamburgers on it and let it go. You get that great charcoal flavor with the ease of a gas grill. It doesn’t take a lot of charcoal to power it for several hours and cleanup is a breeze. When this was delivered there was a small dent on the box, which led to there being a small dent in the lid of the grill. Other than that, assembly was easy and the burn off went without a hitch. No other grill like this exists in the size and portability of this one. It produces great charcoal flavor and gets hot enough for a good sear. On a side note…I called Amazon to see if they could give me some sort of discount for the dent on the lid. To my surprise, they told me no and said I’d have to return the entire grill for a refund. Since I needed it for the weekend, I guess I’ll see if I can just remove the lid and try to pound out the dent. IMO, it’s a rare fail for Amazon, but oh well! UPDATE**** I’m getting temp swings all over the place. The baffle doesn’t seem to stay in place and anything I cook on the charcoal hopper side cooks 5X faster than anywhere else on the grill. If the heat shield/baffle isn’t pushed all the way against the charcoal hopper, prepare for massive flare ups. I’m having regrets with this purchase. I wouldn’t recommend this. ... show more

I love this grill and I want to make that clear. The size, concept and general design work for me and it's great for small batches like tightly trimmed racks of ribs, beef fingers, brats, chicken thighs, and pared down pork butts. Unfortunately, the fan stopped working during the 20th use. I had just got the cook going and was bringing the unit up to temp when the fan stopped working. Customer service was good and a new fan is on the way. The thing is, I'm not sure if the problem is the fan, the switch, or the circuit board. I've been using a small, portable USB fan in it's place. It's not what I envisioned when I bought the grill, but it works. As mentioned by others, the grill grate is not ideal for smoking but is good for grilling. Because the unit is small, it does cook hotter and faster than you might be used to. This is not a drawback necessarily as you can adjust this by limiting the amount of coals you maintain in the hopper. I love the size and design of the grill, but there do seem to be some consistent problems with the electronics. If the fan was still working, I'd give this 5 stars, hands down. Customer service was responsive and is sending me a replacement part, so kudos to them. ... show more

This grill exceeded my expectations, which were already high because it was a Masterbuilt. We'll start with the reason I bought this, I have a travel trailer and wanted something I could use anywhere and this is portable enough to go anywhere. It is sturdy, durable and easy to clean. I emailed Masterbuilt asking if I could like it with foil for an even easier clean and they replied as long as you don't cover the drain or airflow it's okay. Now, the best part, the results. Everyting has been amazing. I just did a side by side comparison cooking baby back ribs with this grill and my full size Masterbuilt. There was difference in the end product.
