  • Good tool!
For the price, and having read the glowing reviews, I was a little underwhelmed by this unit upon unboxing; alas it is just a hedge trimmer. ;-) That said, it no doubt does the job effortlessly, quietly, and I expect, as with all the other Makita tools I've been around, it will continue to do the job for many many years. I doubt any of that could be said of the black and orange trimmers available at the local big box store. In short, the Makita is a real tool, not a toy. If a commercial landscaper needed a corded electric trimmer, this would do. The Makita trimmer has a 4.8 amp motor which provides adequate power without being too heavy (although it certainly isn't light). The safety features work well without burdening the user too much, and the multiple hand grips for the back hand are useful as well. This unit, like many hedge clippers at this price point, has a friction clutch, which protects the trimmer's gears in the event that a big branch halts the blade. (My last trimmer did not have this clutch and one big branch ruined it, so this was vital to me.) The Makita blade is wicked sharp and, at 25 inches in length, can reach quite a ways across a large shrub. Because the trimmer is on the heavy side, and requires two hands on the handles to operate, there is no way to attach the trimmer to a pole to reach into a shrub. Not a lot more to say. In summary, this is an honest tool. It should do a great job without complaint for many years, long after you've forgotten how much it cost. ... show more

  • Performance and safety
The shipment was delayed twice but the order is still worth it. This makita trimmer performs much better than my current. It cut cleanly, powerfully. It can cut the branches which it took my older trimmer many tries to cut. I wish I could have this trimmer earlier. It save me 3x time and the work look clean. I enjoy trimming now insteads of postpone my trimming as long as I can before. I have six large cypress evergreen trees. Last but not least, this trimmer is safe; it requires two hand to operate ... show more

  • Worth every penny
This hedge trimmer is phenomenal! Great performance and SHARP! Cuts through anything. So much better than the little league trimmers they sell at the box stores.

  • Very good trimmer. Cuts beautifully and quickly.
I have been trimming hedges and bushes all my life, both very large hedges to small bushes. I have always used Little Wonder hedge trimmers due to their length, cutting ability, and position of the handles which are great for sweeping the sides of large hedges or tall shaped evergreens (they are pricey) and I've used the inexpensive Garcare telescoping trimmers for doing the tops of tall hedges (good for the money), but for those times where I needed something more maneuverable for smaller bushes and hedges I tried the Makita trimmer. Very impressed. It cuts really well - super fast. I can trim smaller bushes and hedges at least 2 or 3 times faster. It can do bigger jobs as well. I see this trimmer as a must have for anyone who does a lot of different types of trimming. Well worth the price. You won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Works Well, Good Balance, High-End Quality
After looking around to replace my orange and black models (yes, I have two) electric trimmers, I had originally chosen another trimmer made by a famous shaver company - that one was mediocre in quality, so I returned it. This Makita model is excellent all the way around. Great safety features include double handled power-on to protect yourself from harm or from cutting an extension cord. The blade is rather long at 26 inches, but that allows for easy removal of wide shrubs. it went through older undergrowth without much issue - like a hot knife through butter. I needed that capability to lower the height of a five-foot tall shrub, and this did the trick. One pleasant surprise was how relatively quiet this tool is when in use. Geared just right, the motor doesn't race like my previous orange and black models. One thing I did do was use a lithium oil spray by WD before using it and after for storage. Very pleased with this purchase. btw, I did not feel that it was overly heavy or laborious to use for about an hour of cutting jobs. Not a big deal to handle, because it is balanced so well. Made in Romania. Excellent quality. ... show more

  • Well made tool
Nice tool, fairly quiet, ergonomic controls and integrated dual switch safety feature is a great idea. So far ive used it a couple of times and prefer it to my prior gas hedger.

  • Sturdy, good safety features and sharp!!
The trimmer was well packaged to protect it during shipping. It has a double safety switch feature that requires both hands to keep them pressed, so you minimize the risk of inadvertently activating the blades. But these switches are properly placed to accommodate the natural grasping action, so it is not awkward. The trimmer is a little heavy and this is expected because of the size and sturdy design. Have used it twice so far over about 6 months on very thick ivy and cuts easily through quarter to half inch branches even with tough bark. Would recommend that you don't use it too much for thick and tough stems like that as it tends to jerk sometimes, so you need to keep a firm grip and cut bits and pieces at a time (my ivy was badly overgrown!!). Make sure you wipe the blades afterwards and spray them with something like WD40. Oh, and the rigid blade scabbard is a very nice feature to protect the blade (and you) when not in use!! ... show more
