This trimmer is wonderful. First, because it is cordless. I don't know how many of you have ever cut the cord when using a trimmer, but that is just not an issue here. It is very sharp and gets the job done without making a lot of racket, like so many trimmers do. It's so quiet that you hardly know it's running. Very lightweight, so handling is easy. I don't like the fact that it requires that you use two hands to operate it (altho there are ways around that if you are clever).     • Great trimmer, quiet and super effective.
Trimmer is perfect. Very quiet compared to my old electric powered one. So quiet that I was afraid it would not be powerful enough, but boy, was I ever wrong. Plows through hedges, evergreens, bushes and more. Battery life is phenomenal. Bought this because I have the full line of cordless Makita tools, and knew my batteries would fit this. In spite of what others say, battery life for the older batteries is wonderful. I have a half doszn 1830's- three hour batteries. Have not had one battery fully discharge. Trimmer does not take much power from these older batteries, and do not be concerned if you do not have the four or five hour batteries- 1830's last plenty long. Overall, one of the smartest purchases I have made- good price, good battery life, super quiet and powerful, and extremely portable with no cords, outlets or gas mixtures needed! Very well built trimmer that makes fast work of hedges! I did notice upon close-up inspection that the angle of the blade teeth is much finer and more fragile (for fast & delicate work) compared to my 30 year old plug-in B&D which has held it's edge better. This blade is best for light cutting of live soft hedges. Anything over the 0.375 inches maximum diameter that they specify in the manual or hard dead branches should probably cut by hand pruning shears (even though the opening between the teeth allows 0.60 inches). This is a great hedge trimmer and will make very quick work of hedges, but probably not the best for cutting back any harder or larger hemlock or spruce tree branches. Hope this helps! Had some hedges that were getting out of hand, so I bought this tool, since I already have other Makita battery tools. Took only 10 minutes to go from picture #1 to picture #2. The tool is light, cuts anything its teeth can get around, and is very quiet as well.
