We had an electric fireplace that we had been using in our basement for years. We got it as a gift and it was great. Lately, it started having issues and it seems it was time to replace it. I started looking for a new one, put a few in my wishlist and ending up buying one that was highly recommended.....only to have it not work right out of the box. I returned it and went back to my wishlist. This was the next one I chose. This LifeSmart LifePro Electric Infrared Fireplace Heater looks almost identical to the one we were replacing and I honestly should have ordered it in the first place. Such a breeze it was! All I had to do was open the box, plug it in and viola! It works great! Our basement has 3 rooms with an open space and is about 900 square feet total. We do keep the door closed to one of the rooms but this heats the entire basement in under 20 minutes. It has 3 heat settings: 1000 watt, 1500 watt and eco. It also has an overheat and tip over switch. You can adjust the brightness for the flames and it has a digital thermostat with a 12 hour timer. It does come with a remote but so far, we haven't used it. It's also very elegant and easy to clean. We haven't had any issues with it feeling hot on the top so we are able to set a few small items on the mantle. I was a bit leery about getting the stone one but it's so beautiful that I'm glad I did. It's not real tall, sitting at a little over 2 feet, but that's perfect for the room we have it in. The media could not be loaded. My apartment complex decided to get rid of the fireplaces and chimneys in the apartments of the tenants who live on the top floor. They claim leaking due to rain storms and having a fireplace is a fire hazard. I was highly upset. I had to improvise because sealing off the fireplace is a ridiculous idea and I love fireplaces. This heater is very cute and fits just enough to cover the eyesore. It came fully assembled. I tested it for the heat and it didn't disappoint. It gives great heat. You have to set the thermostat to at least 75° for the heat function to work. The only issues I have are I wish it was a little bigger, the flame lighting is brighter, the crackling noise was louder and the overall cost. It should be a little cheaper. This works very well. It will heat up almost any area. The only problem with it is the thermometer is not very accurate. It will turn off to soon if you don't have it set to a higher temperature than the room is. Meaning if you set it to 76f and you know the room temperature is 72f it won't turn on. The color of the fireplace is VERY light. If you have dark wood and are picky about matching, this is not for you. I think it could be stained as it appears to be wood and not cheap particle board. If you misplace your remote, the fireplace does have manual controls on the front, right just below the heater element. The outside of heater does not appear to get hot at all. An animal or child could touch the screen or the wood without feeling anything at all. It is very heavy and full sized. I don't think this would do well on a table where it could be pulled over onto a person or child. It does have wheels on the bottom and can be scooted to another place. The fire does NOT make sounds (although we faked it using an ipod with a fireplace recording). For the price, it is a neat addition and Amazon is offering an 2 year extended warranty with the product that makes it totally worthwhile. The heater itself is fairly quiet and has a thermostat to turn off and on when your set temperature is reached. The heater and the visual fire can be used independently or together. ... show more
