Install is easy. Solid cast metal construction with smooth bearings for easy cranking. I’m using it with a 100 ft hose and it feels very solid and works great. Has a nice top shelf but I would have preferred they made the shelf a little larger.

We love the look. Add a little class to the patio. Very sturdy and solid. Useful tray on top. We mounted ours to wood so we could pull the hose and not have it up against the house. It has been excellent and served us well & we would not hesitate to purchase this again

I had a similar version of this that sat on the ground that was made of plastic. After about a year it cracked and didn't work properly. Honestly I have gotten really annoyed with all of these cheap yard equipment items that just break after a year. This one was nice and sturdy made out of aluminum and has held up great. I use it with one of those fabric hoses and I think I have like 120 ft on it. My only suggestion is if you use these things really just go for the fabric hose as with those vinyl hoses their rigidity make it a little less usable and you can't fit nearly as much hose on it. It also rolls and unrolls really easily which is nice. The plastic one I had before took a bunch of effort to undo and you had to pull the hose directly perpendicular to it to get it to dispense. Not a problem with this unit. Just make sure you properly mount it to your wall with the appropriate anchors. ... show more

I purchased this item over a year ago and it has worked flawlessly. The hose winds and unwinds easily without any problems or leaks. It is sturdy, well built and looks great! I expect it to last many years. A huge improvement over plastic hose reels I have used in the past.

I love this hose reel. We bought two of them and they are easy to mount and work really well. However, last week, after only using one of them for 2 months, the set screw that holds the handle in the drum fell out, making the handle inoperable. I could hear the screw rolling around inside the drum so I took it apart, retrieved the screw and screwed it back in and now it works fine again. It was very challenging getting that screw back in there. I highly recommend tightening those set screws before you put it into service. There is one at each end of the drum. You can see them by looking through the openings toward the sides of the drum. . Just use an allen wrench to tighten them. ... show more

Quite heavy to install on an uneven substrate (exterior limestone cladding) for this 5' 1" user, but I did it and it looks/works great. TIP: Its bronze color is lighter than the dark brown I was thinking it had, but I really prefer it. I've bought 6 of these over the last 5 years for two different houses. They are nice looking and sturdy, and they make rolling up hoses much easier. Leaves a neat appearance if you do it right (see below). Tips: 1) To take pressure off the reel, don't try to roll up a long hose that's all twisted and/or strung across the yard. I drag the hose over in front of the reel area in a few sections arranged like a switchback road up a mountain (no loops crossing each other, if you can picture that). 2) Drain water from the hose before reeling it in to reduce the pressure and weight. Makes it much easier. 3) Use your non-crank hand to guide the hose onto the reel to make a nice tight wind. This is a must especially if you're using a really long hose or it won't all fit. I gave 5 stars in spite of having to return one because of a leak inside the drum. They replaced it no problem. This is the best hose reel I've used. All the retractable and automatic reel ones have not lasted and been wasted money. Get this one instead and follow the tips above for a good, long-lasting, attractive reel.
